My soon to be bride has one earlobe that had an earring torn out a long time ago. It is split and totaly healed. I think it is unique and fine the way it is. She dosen’t like it and has considered having it repaired. Not to make a mountain out of an earlobe but couldn’t you CAREFULLY super glue it together?
You could, but it wouldn’t stay for long, since you are only gluing one layer of skin to another. Skin cells sluff constantly; the ‘repair’ would only last a few days. Repairing it surgically would be a very simple thing to have done, however, and could be done outpatient under a local anaesthesia, if she feels uncomfortable about it the way it is.
And it’s posible the doc would use “skin adhesive” rather than sutures.
I’ll give you two guesses what “skin adhesive” is…
Well, it’s not exactly super glue, but it is a cyanoacrylic.
Yep, that’s true; but the issue is in the tissue … doing it surgically would mean removing the skin on the inner side of each flap and fastening them flesh to flesh, with sutures or surgical adhesive.
Actually, some of the cyanoacrylics are irritant enough that they will cause intact skin to heal together. Apparently works wonders for improving the appearance of scars. Of course that’s in the context of an existing wound, though. I don’t know how it would work out in normal healthy tissue without some heavy-duty healing occurring in the area already.
In any event, it’s definitely not KrazyGloo that they’re using.
