Splitting the G?

I don’t drink very much or spend a lot of time stomping in bars. The best beer on tap is often Guinness, which I have drank for many years.

Perhaps a year ago, barflies started mentioning “splitting the G” when they saw me drinking Guinness. This refers to a challenge where you are served the stout in a Guinness pint glass and attempt to drink enough on the first sip so the level of the beer bifurcates the G on the glass.

The Interwebz implies a perfect sip is about 2.5 regular sips, and gives several links dated 2024 or 2025. But where did this begin? Have you heard of it? I’ve been drinking Guinness for years but this challenge seems fairly new… Any devious strategies for success?

This just sounds like a faster way for the bartender to ask “Want another?”

It’s a viral Tik Tok challenge, at the moment. But I think it’s been around in bars and pubs awhile

I’ve heard of it here in the UK fairly recently. Don’t know if it’s a thing in Ireland.

The Irish Times had an article about strategy from 2024 so suppose it is.

I think it got viral on TikTok. It was such a big thing for a while that Guinness was having problems producing enough.

I think it faded away months ago, though.
