I was watching the first disc of season two of the new Doctor Who, when a strange thing happened. Half an hour into the episode “New Earth”, the disc hiccupped and changed into the remake of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”! Am I kidding? I wish. What happened? Did someone at the dupicating house hit the wrong button? This was a first for me. It was from Netflix, and although I’ve had scratched, broken, and downright incorrect DVDs sent to me over the years, this is the first time one has morphed partway through to a totally different movie.
Anyway, so I need someone to tell me what happened so I can go on with the series. Obviously something important was up with the Face of Bo (sp?) and the Doctor. When the disc went wonky, the hospital had just gone into quarantine and the Doctor and Rose were running down corridors…
The series you’re about to watch has higher highs than the previous, but some real duds too. Don’t give up.
I loved Tooth and Claw, The Girl in the Fireplace, The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit, School Reunion, the two part season end and Love and Monsters (the most divisive Who episode ever - but I loved it). The other episodes in the season are a bit meh, IMO.
If your DVD has the Christmas special “The Runaway Bride” on it, I’d recommend putting yourself into a Christmas Day mood for it - a bit drunk and full of food - it works very well that way, a bit less so in the cold light of day. Although it does have the single best scene involving the TARDIS ever.
