I saw the first half of this movie yesterday, and can’t find the ending anywhere! Who ends up winning the contest? What happens? I had to leave as soon as the contest started!

Lots of shooting, people dying.
Towards the end The Kid confront Herod and Herod kills him, Cort and Ellen must fight each other and refuse to shoot. Herod says if they don’t shoot both die, Cort shoots killing Ellen.
Cort freaks on Herod sets the time at dawn (6 am) to the next fight.
Fight day, in the street ready to shoot. Clock hits six, everything starts blowing up.
Ellen walks out of the smoke after Cort kills all Herod’s gunmen, Herod says ‘your dead’ then ‘what do you want’ she tosses her father’s star at him and says ‘my life back’ then shoots him a couple times. He dies with a bullet in his brain.
Ellen takes the marshall star and gives it to Cort, says the law has returned to town and then rides off.
Essentially what happened. Shame that in most versions you don’t get to see the sex scene between Cort and Ellen 
The Mayor hung the Lady’s father when she was a kid. The Mayor strung him up, put a chair underneath him, and started shooting out the legs (like in the beginning of the movie). However, instead of shooting all the legs out, he just shot out most of them, and gave a gun to the Child. He told her that her father could live if she could shoot the rope. She accidentally shoots her father instead. She’s held a slight grudge ever since.
Hmm… Obsidian Flutterby, you said that Cort kills Ellen, and then Ellen comes back. I’m confused. Was it like a “fake” death?
And yes, indeed a shame the bordello scene was cut. I’ve heard it was in the European version.

Yes, they faked her death using red ink for blood.
The clock makes a noise before it clicks…
Yes, the European version shows Stone getting it on with the preacher, which is the most memorable moment of the movie.
That, and the fact that after Herod has been shot there is a nice CGI of a hole in his chest through which you can see the sky.
Well of course it was a fake death! How else could she come back to shoot Herod dead and then ride off into the sunset?
