<Spoiler> Brazil v. Germany <Spoiler>

Thanks Coldfire

Couldn’t get into the party at the Brazilian restaurant (Zabumba). Too crowded, no wrist strap. Although I was rooting for Germany, I like Brazil as well. So to congratulate them I drove around in the Willys and honked in time to the music.

Congratulations Brazil on a game well played.

Aww Coldfire

they * are * our neighbours.

Congrats Brasil !

Yeah, and they stole the 1974 world cup from us, too!

Lest any Americans think the animosity has anything to do with the war. It’s all football, folks.

having John Cleese in my head now

There is a first time for everything. I just dislike Brasil more than the Germans. Futhermore being European it’s normal to support our fellow Euro’s, except the French of course

It’s great for Ronaldo, so congrats to him.

käse,

Basel meets the Germans.

Well, as a native German who lived in the Netherlands in '74 (and is still sad the boys in ‘Oranje’ didn’t win !!!), grew up in the States, now lives in the Netherlands, and is married to a Brazilian, I can only say one thing:

É penta, É penta, Brasil pentacampeão !!!

I mean, if Germany had won, what would I have done to party? Had some bratwurst and sauerkraut?

Since, Brazil won, I am still busy trying to recover from my hangover, not to mention the fact that I am deafened in one ear from all the ‘batucadas’. Even here in the Netherlands, the Brazilians certainly know how to throw a party !!!

Did you go to that one place just off Rembrantsplein? That always seems to be the heart of all things Brazilian.

Holland were in the World Cup in '74 ! - who knew ?

BTW, Mr Coldfire was so distraught by those events that he still sports that Johnny Rep-Radar Love-Coffee Bar hairstyle.

Anyone for neck beads ?

ps. I do really think '74 was a travesty and an insult to football itself.

If you think Oliver Kahn has sideburns, I’ve got two words for you: Dick fuckin’ Nanninga. And this picture was taken when he was 12.

I can’t quite see the offending items from that angle but I have to say; Great name…‘Naninnga’…really rolls off the tongue in a “Me Tarzan, you Jane” kind of way.

BTW, I thought only Cruyff was allowed to wear two stripes ?

Anyway, no matter how bad they are I can see Dodgy Dick doesn’t quite have the ‘Planet of the Apes’ facial bone structure of our recently saddened German 'keeper. I’m sorry, but Olly’s still my missing link.

11:35 PM local time. Boy was I glad I didn’t have to teach my first class until 3:50 in the afternoon! The bar was packed with fans, in approximately equal numbers, with the promise of an excellent little pub bad to play after the game. The party was still going strong when I had to go home, and another one was going on at the house. Good show by all, and thanks Ronaldo - you won me 10,000 yen.

Well, I started the thread by hoping for a game that would be worth watching, and I think that the Germans and the Brazillians managed to give us one. The whole damn first half was filled with a sense of eventual impending something, which was damn near answered in the second half by Neuville’s carefully placed blast. I’m still not sure that Marcos actually touched that ball meaningfully, but OH! how skillfully played a shot!

And the dummy by Rivaldo on the second goal was fantastic. If the Brazillians played with that sort of understanding all the time, they might end up being as good as, oh, say, the Clockwork Orange.

We started with a great upset, we ended with a great game from the best team ever. Fantastic Cup!
