(Spoiler) Japan - Turkey

What is world soccer coming to???
We beat the world cup hosts to play in the quarter finals against Senegal of all teams.
I am impressed and proud and all that, but hey…

This could really bring the soccer TV ratings down worldwide…

Watermelon Man, congrats to your country’s team. I was really impressed with their speed and footwork.

Unlike Japan. They played PITIFULLY today. I don’t know why. And they pretty much gave your guys the goal on a silver platter.

But I think you should be happy about the next game. I’m really stoked that the “unlikely” teams are doing so well.

(But I hope you don’t mind if I cheer for Senegal  )

and of course here is the spoiler:

Japan : 0 - TURKEY : 1

Congrats, Watermelon Man!

I like the Turkish team. Hell, half of Amsterdam is celebrating right now.

You got a decent chance against Senegal. And then! Turkey in the semis, who would have guessed?

Güle güle!

How about a Turkey vs USA final:)

William Hill would have its golden year then!!!

Everybody losing every penny on pointless bets!

I had split feelings on this game. On the one hand, I like the way Japan have been playing, and they are a rather cute bunch of lads. On the other hand, I’ve wanted Turkey to get as far as possible since the beginning of the tournament. Turkey are a very strong side, with some really classy players.

(And then, I like Turkish food better than Japanese food)

I hope Muzzy Izzet gets a game - the last time I’ll cheer him on before he leaves my beloved Leicester City for another club

Unfortunately, I slept through most of the match. I’ll have to catch the highlights.

I’m really looking forward to the Turkey-Senegal quarterfinal. Now that is going to be some tasty, tasty football!

…and my username is either Turkish or Japanese…

I know it is Turkish…
We even had a prime minister with that first name…

Can anyone verify the Japanese version?

The Japanese version isn’t a persons’ name, it’s a piece of furniture: a cupboard or chest with drawers. If you look up “Japanese tansu” on google, you’ll see websites selling modern and antique tansu - like these http://www.shogunsgallery.com/japanese_tansu.htm

I am chatting with my Turkish friend in Frankfurt right now. He is quite elated. Watched the game before work this morning (on tape, so I could fast forward). Not the most interesting match so far. Japan just seemed listless. Some credit should probably go to the Turks for making them look so. They played solid ball and stifled Japan throughout the match.

Couldn’t even find the game on radio at work today. :frowning: Well done both teams. Although most japanese don’t seem to appreciate how much they accomplished at the moment - it’s quite quiet here tonight.
