Well, I’m off for my 2 1/2 hours of sleep before our boys’ game against Germany. Any non-UK folks (presuming the UK folks won’t want to think about football for awhile), perhaps could open a discussion thread for US/Germany in another hour or two. G’night all.
Absolutely the worst England have looked in a long time. No spark, no fire, no ideas on how to break down the defense. Just plain nothing. What a poor display on their part.
DS, I hate to say it, but that is exactly how England have played in all their games.
Their success has come from their oppositions inability to effectively counter them. If the opposing team plays well, England look terrible ( Sweden in the second half for example) and if the team play poor, England look great (the entire Argentina match)
England havent shown any great imaginative play in this tournament.

Anyone else want to kick us while we’re down? They didn’t play well enough to win, we all know that, but I thought the team fought bravely.
They played well in the first half. I’m not kicking them when they were down. I thought that some of the play was very well. It’s a system that will work brilliantly when the team play well.
Its unfortunate but England seemed to run out of ideas after the Sending Off. I’m sorry you were eliminated, I know what it feels like, but it dosent change the fact that England didn’t play very well for the second half of the game.
There is no shame in their attitude in the game. They played with great heart. I just felt that they were stifled when it came to creating good chances.

Dunno why we couldn’t quite get it together in the second half. I do know that Brazil are actually quite a lot better than us when it comes to intercepting.
Think the red card to Ronaldinho was harsh. He caught him with his studs, but there was no intent. I’ve seen far, far worse than that.
Do you think Ronaldinho was having a shot, or was he trying to drop it down to one of the players in the area, and the ball went long?
