Sports Villains

Huh? Steelers fans aren’t even the douchiest NFL fans in Pennsylvania.

My issue with the Baltimore Ravens is that Gov. Glendening had just finished a series of speeches on how there was no more money for education – then approved millions for the Ravens stadium.

I shall now post what will probably be the most unpopular opinion I’ve ever posted on SDMB:

Despite his past, I kind of like Michael Vick.

This story came from a Toronto journal who’s an even bigger attention-whoring jackass than Avery. He ended up having to retract it.

Doesn’t mean that Avery isn’t a total douchebag, but in the interests of fairness this particular story isn’t true.

I meant to say “likely isn’t true” there.

Brian Burke, GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Most overrated GM in the league.

None of the Leaf players are good enough for me to even care about.

[Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA]

Any N.Y. team

Any L.A. team

Any Boston team

Dallas Cowboys

Notre Dame

Any North Jersey team that is a N.Y. team in disguise: N.J. Nets. and N.J. Devils

Chicago Cubs - annoying fans

Boston Red Sox - annoying fans

Teams I hate:

Baseball - none (The Yankees are so dominant, there’s no reason to hate any other team)
Football - Patriots and Cowboys (although the Steelers are still the undisputed kings of the sport)
College Football - Notre Dame and USC
Basketball - Celtics and Lakers
College Basketball - Duke

Players and athletes I hate (but respect):

Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Ray Lewis
Kobe Bryant
Emmitt Smith
Floyd Mayweather
Bernard Hopkins

Players and athetes I hate (and don’t respect):

Ron Artest
Terrell Owens
Mike Tyson (although my hatred is fading)

So true, and also a shame, because I really like and admire the Rooney family.

Lebron James x 1000000000000000000000000

New York Yankees. Their fans feel that winning the World Series every third year, at a minimum, is their God-given right. They are able to buy their way to said World Series. Ugh.

Dallas Cowboys. See above – just substitute “Super Bowl” for “World Series”.

Randy Moss. Asshat. Cannot be arsed to try half the time. Cannot be counted on. Whiny.

MLB: The Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs
NFL: Cowboys, “Stillers” and Ravens
NBA: Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, Pistons, Heat
NCAA: Southern Cal, Michigan, North Carolina, Duke, Florida State, Texas and the entire SEC other than Vanderbilt.

Cleveland Cav fans: Why does LeBron owe any loyalty to Cleveland? Just because they got a ping-pong ball with their name on it?

I’ll stand with you, and even go farther - I don’t really care about the dog thing, and I think he’s the most exciting thing in the NFL this season. I would like to see him do well. He’s fantastic.

I hate Bill Belichick for the way he left the Jets high and dry after Parcells stepped down, and to a division rival, no less. Total lack of class.

I wouldn’t say I like Vick, but he did the time and seems to have learned from his mistakes.

Vick’s certainly learned to say the right (rehearsed) things to a mike, and shut up the rest of the time. The basic cruelty that could cause him to do what he did? Not so easy to purge.

NFL: Bears. Vikings, Cowboys, and Brent Farve.

NHL: Buffalo, Pittsburgh(both because of the drunken fans), Red Wings, Sidney Crosby, Brooks Orpik, Alex Ovechkin, and Sean Avery.

NCAA: I’m a ABC guy(Anybody But Carolina)

He doesn’t necessarily owe any loyalty to Cleveland though he was born in Akron just south of Cleveland so I could see some people saying he does for that reason. What he owed to Cleveland was not leaving in such a contrived and sure-to-hurt-feelings announcement. That was a class-less act.

Teams I hate:

Baseball: NY Yankees (and Mets by extension since they play in the same city).
The Phillies see below.

Football – Dallas Cowboys, Giants and Jets (because it’s good to root against all NY teams). The Eagles see below

Hockey – The Philadelphia Flyers. They seem always to be the dirtiest bunch of players. This colored my feelings for all Philly teams. The Canadiens – a bit like the Yankees in baseball though they aren’t quite as obnoxious to me.

Basketball – Don’t really care. If I happened to watch I’d root against NY or Philly on inertia.

Agreed on all counts. Not a big fan, especially with his habit of diving and the fact that he punched another player in the crotch and his jumping of another player off the faceoff circle. All the hype just adds to it. If you see an NHL commercial, nine times out of ten it’s got “the next one.” I realize that the NHL achieved the biggest national spotlight with Wayne Gretzky, but stop trying to manufacture another one.

He doesn’t play any more, but I have to mention the great Patrick Roy. Credit where credit is due, he was an amazing goalie. Flat out stole games and possessed an almost unshakeable confidence. That said, he was a colossal dick and nearly as hateable as Claude Lemieux. One of my happiest hockey moments was when he failed at his famous “Statue of Liberty” puck raise in the conference finals against Detroit.

And of course, Chris Pronger. Yeah Avery is a douche and Ovechkin is dirty and Crosby is a whiner. Chris Pronger is all of those things. He grabbed pucks after Chicago victories in last years stanley cup finals. He is probably the dirtiest players in the NHL, and he’s a whiner on top. I’ve seen him cross check a player in the back repeatedly, finally got called on it, and then cried to the damn ref and swore his way to the box. And another of my favorite moments came when he tried to take Yzerman out at the knees, missed, slammed into the boards knee first, and went out with a knee injury for the rest of that playoff series.
