Agreed, that’s why I was careful to stress that I was referencing all theists in my earlier posts.
I mean, of course Jews and Muslims have it much worse than Christians in the US and other parts of the world.

You caught me! I should have restricted my comment to a theoretical 1910 SDMB… Clever steronz, nothing escapes you!
“I’m not insulting you, I’m describing you.”
I’m sure plenty of racists feel that way too when griping about minorities.
Aaaugh! My eyes! The projection is too strong!!
Yes, I’ve often noticed that sociopaths automatically assume that people who care about other people are only pretending to do so in order to achieve some ulterior motive or personal gain. They seem utterly unable to comprehend what it’s like to be empathetic to those that are not part of one’s immediate tribe or to act on that empathy without selfish intent.
It’s much in the same vein as liars assuming everyone else is lying or people repeating false narratives from their tiny partisan news bubble without question accusing others of being part of a hivemind. Some people’s worldview is so limited that they simply can’t grasp that difference.
Hey, this is the pit after all. You’re under no obligation to respond to the substance of the discussion or defend your arguments even a little. Fair point!
But I’m going to resort to calling you a troll in response. You made me do this. Sorry.
Or you know you could try reading a history book and see the multitude of examples of such virtuous leaders as Stalin and Mao, folks who put Hitler to shame when it came to genocide, coming to power by promising the easily deluded and other useful fools a just and equitable society.
What’s your point here? That evil people sometimes promise good things? How is this notable or relevant to this conversation?
All your assumptions about this topic have been incorrect so far. Moderation and rules are not about changing people’s thinking, they’re about ensuring the board is welcoming to everyone, or at least everyone aside from people inclined to bigoted language. It’s a value judgment – we’d rather have trans people than people who denigrate trans people. The opposite would also be a value judgment, and the wrong one IMO. It’s no different than the ban on the usage of racial slurs, which AFAICT you haven’t complained about.
Stop already! I can only be so blind! Turn those projectors off.
Are you ashamed about being behind the curve on THIS subject?
Do you think the well reasoned arguments don’t exist? Or is it that your pride has been insulted therefore you refuse to listen to them?
The reality is that people are suffering today, and suffered in the past, for years and decades, waiting for people to buy into well reasoned arguments. They should not have to suffer because others are slow on the uptake of new ideas.
First, if you are a religious person who is a reliable LBGTQ ally and you believe in the robust separation of church and state, I want to lightly apologize for the tone of my rhetoric and for splattering you with my broad brush. That said, I still believe that you worship an imaginary being, as does every other religious non-believer. If I didn’t think that, I’d be a believer.
But if you are religious and blathering about mental illness and litter boxes and attack helicopters, if you claim you are being psychologically abused by not being allowed to misgender people, you really don’t have any high ground to hold when it comes to “objective reality”. And I don’t believe we would be having these conversations if it weren’t for religious dark money groups and their propaganda campaigns on social issues.
But I’ll drop the hijack for a second, because there’s something else that’s causing me quite a bit of cognitive dissonance, and that has to do with a particular transgender woman, one that I’m pretty certain isn’t a victim of so-called “woke ideology” or gender stereotypes. That women is Jessica Watkins, and she is one of the OathKeepers on trial for committing violence on January 6th. While I don’t have an inside line on the thought processes of this group, it appears from the clips I’ve seen and the fact that she chooses to associate with them, that they treat her respectfully without misgendering or deadnaming her.
And my head’s exploding at the thought that a bunch of insurrectionists that tried to destroy the country that I loved are better at anything than a whole bunch of people on this board, and that I think some of you need to learn from these assholes. Try to be better than a band of insurrectionists, people. It can’t be that hard.
Thank you for proving my point. Your association of virtue and a “just and equitable society” with evil is rather telling. Like I said, some people simply cannot comprehend an actual desire for equality and justice for all and assume it’s all a con.
But as I have actually read history books, I’m also well aware of many, many right-wing dictators (including but not limited to Hitler) who demonized the Left using propagandist narratives to drum up moral panic about threats the “decadent” left pose to decent, God-fearing citizens. And how those citizens chose to believe and spread those extremist narratives because it made them feel smug and superior and, after all, why should they care about those people? They were probably just pretending to be innocent for personal gain, right?
And all those “good citizens”, shown the corpses afterward, lied and said they “didn’t know”. Perhaps they even believed their own lies.
I like to think I’m an ally. But it’s an honor that must be awarded by those in the LGBTQ community.
I want my chuch and state separated even more thoroughly than milk and meat. A government should (IMO) make laws based on what is just and right, not on what some book or prophet says. I very much want ‘ceremonial deism’ gone. It really pisses me off.

I knew what kind of theist you were speaking of. I don’t include myself in that group. So, I wasn’t offended.
Of course, that’s a given. Anyone offended by your non-belief is an asshole that needs to get over themselves.
The only point I proved is you can’t read. There is a vast chasm between the language that extols virtue used to manipulate rubes and virtue.
No, we’re all familiar with the things Republicans say.
Also in before we find out octopus thinks the Nazis were leftists.
I thought Nazi meant anyone to the left of Lenin. Like folks here who thought Bush and practically every other Republican were literal incarnations of Hitler.
