I love the sun. When I was blond, it lightened my hair and darkened my skin at the same time! Now, I have (artificially colored) red hair, and the sun is my enemy.
I use color conserving shampoo and conditioner, which has a sunscreen in it. But I would like to know if anyone has used a spray on sunscreen made just for hair?
Just thinking that there should be something out there that you can carry to the beach or pool, and just keep misting it on your hair to prevent sun damage and fading of color?
I really don’t want to wear a hat or bandana, but I guess that’s an option. Or would sun rays get through the fabric of a regular bandana? I keep typing the word bandana to see if eventually it will turn into banana, yeah I’m silly today.
It’s 111 degress out, BTW. The streets of Palm Springs are empty. It is now officially a ghost town. I went out to the pool at 9 this AM and it was perfect, water temp about 85 and air temp had to be 95 by then. So who’s up for a mid-summer PS Dopefest???
I’m a not-so-natural redhead myself, and fading from the sun is so discouraging. I use special shampoo and conditioner as well, but also use Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Leave-In Cream with UV filters. You can just run a little extra through your hair as needed, no rinsing required. Mind you, I haven’t seen a spray-on hair sunscreen here yet.
I have the same problem - and the fading seems to hilight the grey I already have too much of. I usually use a bandana if I’m working in the yard or a hat if I’m in public.
I have color-treated hair that fades horribly in the sun. Last year, I found Banana Boat’s sunscreen for hair and scalp, since my scalp will burn unless I wear a hat or some protection. It’s SPF 15, and it’s in a spray bottle that’s blue. I found it at Eckerds’ (chain drugstore, can’t remember if you have them in CA or not), so I’m assuming you can get it at Walgreens, CVS, or whatever chain drugstore you have near you.
