I currently work as a capacity planner for a large Australian company. The company has been downsizing the last couple years, and I’m looking to move on.
My primary transferable skill, other than the usual suspects of communications, time management, self motivation, etc. that shows up on everybody’s resume, is Excel. Making spreadsheets and VBA gadgets is my favourite part of the job. Compared to the people around me I’m a bona fide Excel guru, but I’m not of the level of where I could go on the Mr Excel message board and answer all the random questions.
Naturally, I’ve been looking for jobs with the Excel developer tag, but all I’ve found in my city has been short-term contracts and not very well paid ones. Has anybody here moved on to an interesting career using spreadsheet skills? I’m willing to take some coursework-- I’m considering SQL or APEX.
