I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a picture of a full-sized sculpture of this squatting angel. What is it called, and who made it?
I dont know who made it but you can buy it here
Snowboarder Bo needs one of these for his caganer collection.
I’m betting it’s made by Toscano.
Mrs. L.A. has one.
Is it not a reproduction of a ‘real’ statue?
I’ve got one of those; quite lovely. But, yeah, who sculpted the original? Is it someone famous and classical, like Bernini? Or is it a more modern work? Definitely lovely and evocative.
No; the Toscano page specifically identifies it as a unique piece.
and now, of course, the adds at the bottom of the page here are trying to sell me one of these angels, from the site that I just posted as if I didnt know they were there! Way to go Mozilla, your targeted ads are working perfectly!

Huh. I could have sworn I saw a life-sized version made of stone.
Now that you’ve all seen it, don’t look away, don’t even blink.
No, those ones are always looking at you. This one is just crying into its hands
Looks like something copied from Michelangelo’s Angel at the Basilica of San Domenico, in Bologna Italy.
[You mean this guy?](Michelangelo’s Angel at the Basilica of San Domenico, in Bologna Italy.) Impressive, to be sure, but it lacks the emotional drive of the one in the OP.
(What is the emotion expressed by the statue? Is it sensuous/sexual? It could almost be the opposite, a posture of sorrow and mourning. Is it a Rohrschach blot, where you project into it what your own mind sees?)
No, I meant this one.
To me, the OP’s example seems like a kitschy, melodramatic copy of Michelangelo’s elegant one.
Gosharooty, my link didn’t work; that was the same one I meant to link to, but I bummed it somehow.
Dunno; I don’t see 'em as very similar. The Michaelangelo one is stark and austere, a power showing his dominion on the throne (so to speak.) He’s an angel of authority. The modern one is extremely emotional (I think.)
(Not that Michaelangelo didn’t have a mastery of emotion!)
ETA: Actually, I agree that the modern one is a little kitschy. But it’s a nice ornament to a bookshelf.
Not similar at all.
Or flower pot shelves.
I’ll give them this; they try hard.
Sorry I’m not seeing it. To me it looks like someone straining to evacuate their bowels (and in a bad position, you wouldn’t want to do that with your feet together). Color me crass if you like, but I wouldn’t be able to have it in my garden, that’s all I would be able to think about.
It reminds me of Spirit of Ecstasy, the Rolls Royce hood ornament, which, IIRC from one of Cecil’s columns, was inspired by image from an old sex manual.
What do you find it evocative of?
