Squiggy is no more

David Lander has passed away at age 73. Complications from MS.

I love these bit of trivia:

Baseball fanatic and student of the game, he helped the young Bill James with his first Baseball Abstract in 1977.

Hired by former Angels GM Bill Bavasi as a scout for Seattle Mariners. [April 2004]

Penny Marshall called him up when directing A League of Their Own for some baseball informtion. She ended up bringing him in as a consultant and then casted him as the Radio Sportscaster.

Where he saw enough to know he saw too much. Always laugh at that line.

It’s a shame. He was opening doors to apartments unexpectedly decades before Cosmo Kramer.

And saying “Hello!” decades before Uncle Leo.

My favorite bit:

I always loved his comedy. One of my favorite bits:

Look out, Marshall Lucky. It’s High Prices.

“Jesus Palomino!”

Godspeed, Squiggy. I, too, had not realized that he was so involved in baseball – that’s really cool.

You know he just said “fuck”? That’s an FCC violation.

Thirded (given W.E.'s nod).
As long as he wasn’t one of those Stato-o-Matic nerds. :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t why, when I was kid, I’d always imagine that if Doug from Doug and the Slugs was ever replaced, it would be by David. Which is props, btw. You can totally picture Lander belting out “Too Bad”.

Not that I watched the show a whole lot, but you’d think I’d know about Squiggy’s “Hello” thing - of which I had no clue, and would like to thank this thread for fighting my ignorance on this.

Hey, now…

Ah, man. I remember an episode where someone (probably Laverne) called Lenny and Squiggy a couple of knuckleheads. Squiggy got an offended and hurt look on his face and said something like “Knuckleheads. . .? Well okay, maybe we are knuckleheads; but we’re the best knuckleheads you ever saw!”
