Mrs. HeyHomie and I are going to spend a weekend in St. Louis for our anniversary. We’re staying at a hotel near the airport and are going to see a game at Bush Stadium.
The on-line map of the St. Louis Metrolink system makes as much sense to me as an Egyptian papyrus.
So, can anyone please tell me how to get from the airport Metrolink station to Busch Stadium? How much will it cost and how long will it take? The game starts at 1:15, so when should we leave?
Also, anyone know anything about Mama Campisis’s Italian restaurant at The Hill? We’re going there on my MIL’s recommendation, but it’s been 10 years since she ate there and doesn’t remember much. Is there good parking? Is the neighborhood good? What are prices like (my MIL seems to think it’s prix fixe)?
Well, the metrolink is only one line, so there’s no transferring or getting lost between the airport and the stadim. Just get on headed East (the Airport is the last stop, so there’s no going west from there), and get off at Busch Stadium (I think the stop is just listed as “Stadium”). Should take somewhere around 20 or 30 minutes. It drops you off right in front of the stadium. Very simple.
The cost is $1.25 everywhere except the airport. If you get on there, it’s $3, so if you can get tickets elsewhere, do (all tickets are good from the airport, they just cost more if you buy them there).
I’ve never been to that restaurant, but the Hill is a find neighborhood with great Italian food. Most of it isn’t very expensive, but I don’t know about that particular place.
By the way, you’ll have to drive or cab to the Hill…Metrolink doesn’t go there.
The first stop after the airport is at north Hanley Road near the intersection of I-70 and I-170. Depending on where you’re staying, that may actually be more convenient than the Airport stop.
As TheFifthYear said, there’s only one line, and there is a stop specifically for Busch Stadium, so you won’t get loss or miss a transfer.
On weekends the trains run once every 15 minutes, although they might run closer together when there’s a big event like a baseball or football game.
They’re building a new stadium right across the street from Busch, so parking is a mess and sidewalks are torn up everywhere. You may have to detour around some of st. Louis’ ubiquitous orange mesh fencing, but you’ll be getting off Metrolink right next to the stadium, so at worst it will be a minor inconvenience.
I can’t say anything about Campisi’s specifically, but three things in general about the Hill.
There isn’t a bad restaurant there.
Prices are reasonable
It’s a safe neighborhood, which is great, because if you drive, you’ll probably have to park on the street somewhere and walk.
I have only driven by Mama Campisi’s once or twice, but I’m pretty sure it’s only street parking, though you shouldn’t have to park too far away.
Getting into Busch and to your seats won’t take more than ten minutes from the train stop, likely less. Getting food and drink, however, might take just as long.
And just in case no one’s mentioned it, there’s only one MetroLink line, and it takes you right to the stadium.
Not a St. Louis native, but have visited there often and my brother lives there and unless they have made changes the Metrolink doesn’t add trains or run them more frequently for just about any event.
