I doubt the evil Empire’s reach extended as far as Voyager’s distant path across the Delta Quadrant, although if they’d really wanted to do a Mirror VGR episode I’m sure they could’ve found a way.
And the novel Dark Mirror, if we are speaking of non-TV examples.
You could always make it involve a mirror universe where the Empire never fell; given how alternative universes seem to work in Trek there almost have to be alternate versions of the Mirror universe too.
Best:
I found it really tough picking a fave:
The episode where the ship is a demon world duplicate Good ep, but I could see how it was going to end, which spoiled it for me.
Year of Hell part 1 was great, fantastic set up, but I felt that the second part let it down somewhat.
The think tank was on recently, and is a cool episode (and the guest actor’s mannerisms kept making me laugh), though it’s a shame we don’t get to see the think tank demonstrate their skillz more.
The void can’t think of a downside, but I’m not comfortable calling it my favourite either.
Worst:
All the holodeck-exclusive episodes suck. The worst was “Spirit Folk”, which was Irish themed. The set up was particularly weak:
The citizens of Fair Haven disable the holodeck safeties by shooting a panel with their shotguns (!). They then take two crewmembers hostage. When B’elanna suggests to the captain that they just turn the holodeck off she is rebuked on the basis that the crew have formed “valuable friendships” with the holodeck characters.
Erm, does turning the holodeck off wipe programs now? And, isn’t saving lives a teeny bit more important than the friendships?
Oh, and finally the worst moments in all the eps are when Paris talks about 20th century earth yet again. It would be like having a friend who talks about nothing but 17th century French spinning wheels.
I always thought the best episode was the one where Kes was traveling backwards in time from the rest of the crew. That is the only episode I have wanted to see more than once.
In the Mirror Universe, Janeway could have just killed everyone rather than destroying the platform that sent them into another quadrant. ![]()
Many, she would look so cool saying, “Break out the compression phaser rifles.” wearing an Empire uniform.
Good point. Without any of those pesky Federation ethics and morals to ponder, it would’ve been a one-episode series!
They would all be single episode series if Kirk had said, “Mr. Spock, set phasers to kill.” or Picard, “Disease to kill all the Borg? Damned could idea, Number One. Make it so!”

The humans in the mirror universe by the time of Voyager seem much less evil than they were when they were heading the Empire, though.
Was that just because they no longer had the power to do the kinds of things they were doing before, or did the loss of the Empire and resulting oppression lead to a cultural shift? Hard to tell.
The easiest way to get the Voyager premise and characters (without resorting to the ‘alternate Mirror’ idea Der Trihs mentions upthread), would be an Alliance ship, captained by Seska, with B’ellana (who would not go by Torres in this universe) as engineer, and with a number of human slaves (including Janeway and Paris) pursuing a ship of human and Vulcan rebels (Led by Chakotay and including Tuvok) into the Expanse.
Seska and B’ellana fail to take the rebels, and are, instead, captured themselves, and Janeway and Paris given a position in their crew. For extra fun, despite losing, let’s assume Seska’s ship is the less damaged, so the rebel crew transfers to it - so Chakotay makes Janeway his second in command, inverting what they did in the main series. And what of B’ellana? As it turns out, having a human father, and, since Tom was taken aboard as a slave, a human lover, has made her sympathetic to the rebellion (leading Seska to curse her, and regret trusting her)…which, of course, is what allowed the rebels to defeat them.
Now, we have the ‘one-episode problem’…will the humans, despite being post-Imperial let the Ocampa die, in order to get home themselves? Tough one. The most fun version has to assume ‘yes’, but, we don’t want to let them get back to the Alpha Quadrant, because that wouldn’t be very fun either. So, let’s bypass the whole thing by having the Caretaker’s array destroyed in the battle between Seska and Chakotay’s crews.
So, the Alliance ship with a rebel crew has to make their way home. But they’re generally less good and more pragmatic than their prime-universe versions, so, let’s see how they deal with the Kazon…the Hirogen…the Vidiians.
Voyager was always my favourite of the Star Trek series. It’s not as well-written or well-acted as DS9, but it’s just that much more entertaining. The two parters are almost always very good: Year Of Hell, Scorpion, Future’s End and Equinox, all already mentioned, are among the best (pairs of) episodes of any of the ST series. My single favourite episode is Message In A Bottle though. Attempts in other ST series at a ‘comedy’ episode fell flat, but MITB was very, very funny.
Worst:
Some Voyager episodes were just way too dumb to enjoy. Threshold deservedly features on any list of worst Star Trek episodes - what the hell were the writers on? Demon, The Disease and Tsunkatse too. The writers didn’t seem to know what to do with Chakotay, and crap episodes like Cathexis and Tattoo were the result. A few other scattered episodes were just dull, such as The Q & The Grey, Concerning Flight and The Fight. Finally, Elogium, in which Kes had a phantom pregnancy, was awful and is probably my single least favourite episode of Voyager.
I recently rewatched a the last few seasons of Voyager and I have to say that Threshold was the worst, but in the last few seasons the 7 0f 9 episodes became too much. Geez, we get it…she’s hot and and all.
neelix was a bad character, and I found Naomi Wildman annoying as hell…but the prize goes to Icheb. What the hell was that about? Why was he even on the show after the borg kid tales were over? I swear he must have had incriminating photos of the producers since his character added nothing. (Less than Neelix, really)
I have been given to understand that she was “dating” a producer.
Voyager was terrible and there aren’t very many good episodes.
S1: nothing
S2: “Projections,” “Death Wish,” “Deadlock” (I’m a big fan of any episode where everybody died)
S3: um
S4: “Year of Hell” “Living Witness”
S5: “Timeless,” “Course: Oblivion” (I think I’m the only person who likes this episode, but, again, everybody died so it was okay by me)
S6: “Pathfinder,” “Blink of an Eye”
S7: meh
Worst: almost literally everything else.
This could be considered heresy by some but I’d rather watch the worst 2 seasons of Voyager than the first 2 seasons of TNG if I had to chose between them.
I understand.
It’s a Wesley/Nelix thing.

Don’t understand why some look down on Voyager. I mean, at least it actually explores space and isn’t a glorified soap opera. There I said it.
And while I’m off-topic ranting, I didn’t find Wesley annoying at all. If there was anything annoying it was how all the other characters kept being rude to him.
Yes, Wesley’s massively underestimated because of his age – WE GET IT.
Two things that seem to be featured in science fiction that I do not like are using robots as comic relief, and the presence of children.
