I’m putting this up as a sticky, because the question keeps arising.
Staff Reports are prepared in advance. The usual process is that on Friday, Ed Zotti edits the Staff Report and then posts it on the website, dated the following Tuesday (or Thursday.) An email is sent to subscribers, alerting them to Cecil’s Column (dated that Friday) and to the Staff Report to be published officially in the coming week.
Sometimes, the author of the Staff Report makes some further edits between the Friday notification and the Tuesday publication.
Thus, we often have threads and links to Staff Reports that are dated a few days in advance.
If this bothers you, it’s not different from magazines that come out several weeks before their date: I just received the October 2007 issue of CONSUMER REPORTS and it’s August 31.
