Standing desk experiences

I’m a few days into working standing up

Is anyone else doing it? How long does it take before it becomes easy?

Any tips? I’m trying to ease myself into it gradually.

I use a cardboard box to elevate my keyboard and mouse. It’s almost just as good as one of those fancy-schmancy standing desks.

I alternate sitting and standing in 30-minute intervals. I sit when I have company. I stand when I’m talking on the phone or if I a conference call. If I’m just reading emails or something, I even try to squeeze some lunges in. Sometimes I find myself standing without even thinking about it, and I have to force myself to sit down and rest.

I’ve been able to keep up this routine for the past nine months. I have no way of knowing if it’s improved my health any, but it certainly seems like it’s been beneficial. I feel like I have more vim when I’m on my feet. I don’t feel so “blah” in the afternoon. My butt and thigh muscles seem more toned.

Standing at my desk makes me feel obnoxiously virtuous. I see my coworkers planted in their seats all day, and I shudder to think that used to be me.

I found that I was just naturally standing to do work, so I was standing then bought a standing desk, rather than the other way around. It really does make me feel better than sitting all the time does. I recommend a standing mat of some sort to ease some pressure on your feet. Be sure to move around as well. Don’t just stand in one position.

I never could figure out how to hang drywall or lay blocks sitting down, so did it all standing up for years. Still ended up with diabetes and a triple bypass surgery!

I used to prop everything on my desk up on cardboard boxes, but earlier this year I bought this (the Pro model) and I love it. I just raise & lower it whenever necessary. I stand most of the day, but usually sit around lunchtime for about an hour.

I can’t say I am in any better shape because of it, but I mainly did it because I get tired of sitting all day. I prefer standing most of the day.

I have a geekdesk at work.

I like the ability to change the height of my keyboard relative to my arms over the course of the day, but I have become convinced that the whole standing desk thing is just another stupid fad. We’re going to look back on this and say “you remember when we thought that standing up to work was a good idea?” and then everyone will laugh and climb back into their hammockdesks.

Don’t get me started on the treadmill desk they gave me for a while.

In the 50s, I worked at a radio station with a stand-up DJ control board, sometimes a six-hour shift. There was a bar stool in there that could be used for a moment when times were slow. I was a lot younger then. .
