Onward and upward!
I’m glad I found this late enough to get the good news. Hope things keep getting better.
Thanks @Yllaria! I’m still weak but am slowly getting better. I’ll get there (to 100%) eventually.
And… damn, it’s back. I went to the ER last night because my 2 day fever wasn’t breaking, and also because of my heart condition being susceptible to infection.
Yep, staph blood bacteria. The ABXs (antibiotics) are kicking in nicely and my temp has been normal and I’ve been feeling pretty good since this morning.
The infectious disease doc says like last time I’ll need to go home with another PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter). It’ll probably be for 6 weeks like last time, with Cefazolin. It’s barely been two months and I’ve gotta do this again. I didn’t even have to look up Cefazolin because it was so recent.
The doc also says I’ll probably be taking an ABX pill for the long foreseeable future.
Better living through chemistry, I guess. But, damn!
Really sorry to hear that. Take care and follow medico’s orders!
Ugh. I’m so sorry. I take it you’re still in the hospital?
Best wishes for a swift, uncomplicated, permanent recovery!
so sorry to hear this!
Still in the hospital although I feel fine. They are running cultures, and then tomorrow running a test or two to check my heart. I should be discharged Tuesday. Or Wednesday if it takes longer to set up the home antibiotics administration.
I hope it’s Tuesday. After going through this twice, I bet you’ll gladly stay on meds if it means no relapses. I’m amazed that this can be recurring.
The PICC line has saved my life more than once.
Get as long a term prognosis as they’ll give you.
Maybe you can get the longer use lines.
After this spell is over maybe you can do an infusion once a week for awhile. To keep it beat back.
Its a pain, but better than being sick every 2 or 3 months.
BTW, do you have any joint replacements or internal devices inserted?
I spent 3 weeks in the hospital with this infection. Mine got into the blood because the Dr. doing a test on me used air to inflate my stomach and it burst. It cost me about 8,000 out of pocket. I should have sued but didn’t I felt bad for the young Dr. and didn’t want to see it go on his record. I honestly thought he would offer me some compensation, but he didn’t.
Damn, @HBDC, that sucks.
@Beck, no joint replacements but I do have a valve replacement and they said a bacteria source could be hiding there, or possibly in my bones. Or, it came from the skin.
I’ll likely be on the PICC line for 6 weeks and then on some antibiotic pill for some time to come.
@nellie it won’t be today, because a final blood culture is growing. Likely tomorrow for discharge.
The good news is that the heart test, a TEE, showed no bacteria attached to our growing on the replacement valve. And I continue to feel pretty good.
That IS good news! Keep us posted, please.
Sounds good. So far.
Things moved quickly today. Right after lunch I got the PICC line installed, and soon after that, discharged!
Am on my way home as I type this. Woo-Hoo!
You’ll be much happier at home. Take it easy though.
If you’re around children over the holiday, mask up.
Those petrie dishes in diapers carry every pathogen known. Don’t add to your problem.
No rugrats on the radar!
Hooray for getting sprung! And you’ll get to sleep in your own bed, also a plus! Many wishes for increasing health and strength and, now that you’ve seen the show twice, no encores.
No encores. I’m working on it.
Thank you all for your nice sentiments and well wishes.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
