Star Citizen is the Future of PC Gaming, and it [was] Free to Play this week (Edit: No Longer Free)

What’s #1?

Star Citizen represents all the fantastic concepts that we would all love to see in a game. A game that goes beyond a single genre and allows players to interact with the world from various perspectives and with a seemingly endless ocean of opportunity. Star Citizen promises all of this and delivers… Well technically it has delivered nothing as the game just never comes out regardless of its enormous kick-starter budget.

And #2 is NMS, evidently the author is one of those who is still all butthurt about the mishandled initial release. This opinion piece is from 31 July.

Every time this thread comes up, I read it as “Star Citizen is the Future of PC Gaming… And Always Will Be”.

Star Citizen is facing apparent delays in planned updates to the system it uses to publicly track development updates .

So the developers themselves have no fucking clue what’s going on? Or they do and want to keep it hidden?

Probably a little of both - in that they know just enough to know how fucked things are, but are otherwise clueless due to a lack of effective project management.

Translated from German: “Alpha 4 was postponed indefinitely”.

From that article: “There have been more question marks around Star Citizen lately than they already have. For example, since last year there has been no sign of life from CIG founder and figurehead Chris Roberts; on the subject of Squadron 42, the cloak of silence is also currently being shrouded.”

About that Alpha 3.10 Update?

" Here is an overview of the contents of the update:

  • After a long development period, the NPC bartenders are finally functional.
  • The approach to landing zones has been revised and is now more clearly defined thanks to lanes.
  • The currency aUEC can now be traded or transferred between players.
  • There are additional shops in New Babbage.
  • The flight system has been specifically redesigned with regard to flight within the atmosphere. This affects all ships and is therefore a very important change.
  • For mining fans, there is now a ground vehicle for this job, namely the Greycat ROC, which costs 50 US dollars inthe shop.
  • Dead or lifeless bodies can now be pulled."

Oh, goody! The bartenders are operational! And about that last item-dead body disposal was just now taken care of? I am totally surprised that he didn’t charge real money for removal and funeral services.

I heard about this just this morning and immediately thought of thousand dollar spaceships which only exist in pretty pictures.

Oh, look: another roadmap for the roadmap.

This roadmap shit is ridiculous. Is anyone beginning to feel like CiG is flailing way more than normal?

I swear to god, I feel like I should toss a few bucks to Cloud Imperium just for the entertainment this thread has given me.

I wonder, what is the smallest amount of money you can spend with them?

I guess the game needed yet another ship. Which won’t be available until at least December.

Will they be changing the name of the game to Squadron 419?

Squadron 404 game not found.

From what I understand $45 will get you the game with one of two starter ships.

$45 won’t get you shit, because there will never be a game.

Pretty sure $45 will at least get a nifty tech demo, which may or may not work properly.

According to this article, crowdfunding has reached over $312,000,000.

They also started two weeks of free play a couple of days ago. Are they hurting for cash already?

It’s always nice when the thread title becomes true again. Five years after the thread started.
