Kal-if-fee!
I think the implication there was that Nancy consented to the deal.
“NANCY: Part of me understands. Part does not. But it pleases me.”
You can keep on believing what you want.
One more, then I’ll shut up:
NANCY: I heard him. He was loved and he resents it.
MCCOY: You just rest.
NANCY: No. I don’t want to die. I’ve been good at my job, but I’ve never been loved. Never. What kind of life is that? Not to be loved, never to have shown love? And he runs away from love. (cries)
Still sounds creepy. :dubious:
I wonder what her eHarmony profile would look like? ![]()
Mmmm, terentii, this is light-hearted, and yet deeper in a way. You appear to be imposing your own moral feelings about this upon the situation. That sort of thinking shows you’d probably not be a good choice for traveling and unexplored universe looking for the new and different.
I come in peace. Now, wait a second while I pull out my phaser! ![]()
Now you’re sounding a bit like Captain Kirk ![]()
Yes, I would!
(I’ve a crush on Elinor Donahue for a long time.) ![]()
You should hear me do Bill Shatner reading the weather report! ![]()
Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks! ![]()
Season Two also has some of the best tags in TV history:
“The Trouble With Tribbles” - “…where I’m sure they’ll be no tribble at all.”
“Mirror, Mirror” - “I’m not sure, but I think we’ve been insulted.” “I’m sure.”
“Friday’s Child” - “What do you think, Spock?” “I think you are both going to be insufferably pleased with yourselves for at least a month! Sir.”
Or, the art of throwing carpet knives.
“Obsession”
Scott: Captain, thank heaven.
Mr. Spock: Mr. Scott, there was no deity involved. It was my cross-circuiting to B that recovered them.
Dr. McCoy: Well, then, thank pitchforks and pointed ears! As long as it worked, Jim.
^:dubious:^
**McCOY: ** Do you know what you get if you feed a tribble too much?
**KIRK: ** A fat tribble?
More tribbles.
“Patterns of Force”:
KIRK: Spock, I don’t care if you aim at the broad side of a barn. Just get on with it!
SPOCK: Captain? Why should I want to aim at such a structure?
“By Any Other Name”:
SCOTTY: I found this on Ganymood, er, Ganymede.
**TOMAR: **What is it?
SCOTTY: Well, it’s, er… It’s green!
Season 3! Or maybe it should be Season 3:(
Spectre of the Gun
Once again, the Enterprise barges into a territory in which it’s not wanted, is given a stern warning to vamoose, ignores this warning, sends down a landing party, which is confronted with a lot of fog and a creepy alien.
True to form, Kirk announces “we come in peace” – then pulls out his phaser. (Well, okay, he does have some reason.) Also true to form, the alien sentences the landing party to death by unnecessarily complicated means. Not sure if they’re testing the trespassers or maybe they just want some entertainment. I think it’s the latter.
Overall, it’s a fair episode, but I give it high marks for atmosphere. The bare bones set may have been used for budgetary reasons, but it helps create a suitably spooky aura. Add the music and the near-constant wind, and you’ve got something real eerie.
The Paradise Syndrome
A decent episode, but it gets bogged down in sentimentality.
A few observations:
Was it really a wise move to for the chief elder to humiliate Salish by publicly demoting him? A leader should be more tactful. Salish may be a bit of a jerk, but I have to sympathize with him. He not only loses his position in society, but his bride-to-be as well. No wonder he hates Kirok.
AmerIndians already knew how to preserve food for times of scarcity. They certainly didn’t need Kirok to teach them.
McCoy can really be a pain sometimes. I am in awe of Spock’s Vulcan calm as he patiently explains to Bones why they can’t stick around searching for Kirk because they urgently need to leave to deal with that pesky asteroid - and if they don’t Kirk and everyone else is going to die.
Of course, that leads to the question of why they were wasting time on the planet to begin with, and why Kirk just had to go back to look at that obelisk again.
A vastly underappreciated episode, I agree! ![]()
