One of my favorite moments in all of Trek was in the DS9 episode in which the crew went back in time to “The Trouble With Tribbles.” Worf points out the (no-ridge) Klingons in the bar, and his crewmates ask, in amazement, “those are Klingons?” Worf’s embarrassed reply: “We don’t talk about it.”
And if they’d left there, it would still be magic.
I haven’t seen the Enterprise episodes that go messing about with this yet, but I’m given to understand it’s quite a disappointment.
As someone who has watched maybe a dozen hours of Trek in my life, I have to say that this movie looks fantastic. A movie for everyone as opposed to a movie for Star Trek nerds.
And I say that with all the loving affection a lifelong Star Wars nerd can muster for fans of that other series.
So, this is like Muppet Babies?
Muppet Babies did have an awesome Star Trek episode. Plus, their Star Wars parody was better than either Family Guy or Robot Chicken.
We don’t talk about it.
Excuse my ignorance, but has it been confirmed that ths is a reboot or is it just a prequel that messes with established continuity.
Does the time travel element cause this reality to diverge from the original trek universe?
It’s not out here for a while, so I’m really looking forwrad to it.
From what I understand, yes.
Isn’t this one supposed to be a Very Special Star Trek Afterschool Special, where Spock goes back in time using the Guardian of Forever to keep Kirk from smoking that evil reefer?
I’m sorry if it’s inappropriate, but – damn! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a nose that looks so much like a penis as JJ Abrams’ does in that picture.
I thought it was where Spock went back in time in disguise and tried to teach one of Kirk’s 20th Century ancestors the dangers that lurk in the unknown, especially when traveling in flying vehicles.
George Takei was about 28 years old when he was first cast as Sulu in the Original series.
John Cho, who plays Sulu in the upcoming film, is 36.
JJ Abrams and Judge Alvin ‘J.P’ Valkenheiser separated at birth?
No, I don’t suppose that they do.
pfft At least they actually cast Asians as Asians these days. Could be worse. They could have case Mickey Rooney in the role.
George Takei isn’t Asian?
Sure he is. His family was interred just down the road from me during the Big One.
We all remember where we were when Fred Sanford finally had The Big One.

This is one movie I may actually go see in the theatre.
I am hesitant to trust fan based reviews, as Star Trek fans can be a nit picky bunch. (Although the linked story was not negative.)
