Star Wars biggest plotholes

Oh, okay. Thanks!

As an aside, does the game go into how the two X-wings were covering the leader? Why are they flying so close? The only thing I can thing of is they can take a bullet for the leader. A noble gesture, but wouldn’t it be wiser to stay a little above to shoot any pursuers?

I think the idea is that, if the leader buys it, one of the wingmen can move up and take over the run without having to start the run over back at the beginning. Also, they can take out gun emplacements while the leader is focusing on his targetting computer.

Yebbut, which sounds better?

“Your father wanted you to have it when you wee old enough.”

or

“I took it from your father right after I dismembered him and left him for dead.”

After seeing ROTS, I have one question. They hide the children for safekeeping, right? OK, that works as far as Leia being adopted by the Organas. But giving Luke to Anakin’s brother??? I mean , isn’t that the first place they’d look? WTF? :dubious:

Should Obi Wan have just been upfront?

“Oh yeah, that father your uncle told you about, the one you’ve been looking up to your whole life…he was actually quite a douchebag. He killed some children. Oh, and he choked your mother too. Here’s his weapon.”

Actually, I’d have just preferred if there’d been a line in ROTS like, “…and someday my son will be a Jedi like me and I shall train him and give him this saber right here.” Except written and delivered better.

Wait, then it would have stood out from the rest of the dialog.

Anakin doesn’t know that his children lived (notice that Padme still looks visibly pregnant in her funeral scene). It’s only after ANH, when he finds out that the young pilot that destroys the Death Star is

  1. named skywalker
  2. strong in the force

that he targets Luke.

The fact that the child was Anakin’s was a secret until after Anakin had turned evil would have made the request impossible.
Maybe Luke would be better hidden amongst blood relatives? Vader gets an itchy nose “I sense a Skywalker on planet Tattoon”, doh :smack:

Obi-wan’s description of Uncle Owen’s relationship with Anakin imples that they knew each other much better than they could have during the brief visit in AOTC. He had “gotten involved” 10 years before they met.

And how did Leia become a princess?

Her parents were the king and queen of Alderaan?

What bothered me about the whole pod race bet is that we clearly see Qui-Gon influence the roll of a die in his favor. Who needs to race when you can play craps? Even if they didn’t have much money to start with, powers of two will buy you the whole damn planet pretty quickly.

Perhaps that’s the point. Vader (né Anakin) would think “aha… Tatooine… I shall look there for my offspring. No, wait a minute… Obi-Wan’s not an idiot, he wouldn’t put him there.” and cross it off his list.

And how was 14-year-old Amidala elected “Queen” of Naboo?

Where did Naboo get the Greek concept of Democracy?

??? That’s an odd nitpick. Where did the Greeks get it? For that matter, where did the Empire get the Nazi concept of a genocidal fascist dictatorship?

The same way she got appointed Senator. Naboo has a wierd system of goverment, not to mention bizarre styles(Padme’s China Doll facial annoyed the hell out of me the sole time I watched Phantom Menace).

From this review:

re obi wan’s aging on tatooine.

allow me to introduce y’all to robert redford. he is the poster guy for what no sunscreen and moisturizer will do to you.

re r2d2 and c3po

c3po was a dullish metalic colour when he lived with the lars family. he got his nice new coating after he left tatooine with anakin and padme. r2d2 was from naboo, he was on padme’s ship. he belonged to her. c3po belonged to anakin after his mother’s death. after they married. they traded droids as c3po worked better for a senator, and r2d2 for a jedi flying around.

re hiding luke on tatooine.

they couldn’t give luke to padme’s sister. the family was too high profile and in the area ruled by the emp. the lars family was low profile and on a planet ruled by the hutts. the lars were the closest relative to be able to raise luke in a low profile manner.

after shmii’s death and what anakin did to the raiders, vader really had no reason to look up a stepbrother he knew for less than a day, and after he became vader for sure his momma would not approve of what he did so he wouldn’t visit her grave site.

shmii was freed by lars within a year of anakin leaving tatooine. anakin and shmii lived in mos espa, the lars lived near mos eisley. the two towns seem to be a distance from each other. when anakin and padme go from one to the other they use the ship not a bantha or hovercraft.

re lightsabre inheritance

i think that anakin would have liked the idea the obi-wan or someone would pass his lightsabre on his child, once he became one with the force. anakin that is. obi-wan saying that to luke, is just 0-w figuring what the anakin he knew and trained would have wanted.
vader on the other hand… perhaps he would have wanted someone to use the light sabre on luke

rocking chair,

I love SW nitpicks. I’ve become a fangirl. I read all of them, and am almost in every thread.

But I couldn’t read your post…there’s such a thing as punctuation and capital letters. Please, please, use them! Someone invented them for good reason, you know.

Please don’t be offended…just a suggestion.

It was just jarring hearing the word “Democracy” on another planet, that’s all. I know they have to use English so the movie audience understands it, but it seemed too specific a term in an alien world.

Like Gimli using “nervous system” in a The Two Towers. Pulled me right out of the movie.

And that monotone wooden voice Amidala used annoyed me! Especially expressing her “outrage” in the senate. This is when you should show a little emotion.

The worst “pull me out of the movie” moment for me was in AOTC:

“This is my girlfriend Beru.”

Wha–? Girlfriend?? Was that necessary, George? Couldn’t they just have already been married?

“This is my girlfriend Beru. Well, I guess she’s more than a girlfriend; it’s not like we see other people. Technically we’re engaged. Well, we’re more like ‘engaged-to-be-engaged.’ I gave her a promise ring. I’ve asked her to move in, and she said yes, but we’re just taking things slow, you know? We’ll see what happens.” :smack:
