Attack of the Clones Mysteries. Let's list 'em.(total spoilers)

  1. Who hired the Tusken raiders to kidnap Schmi? Obviously, they only wanted her and kept her alive for a month, so they were hired.

  2. Who was yelling, “No, Anakin, No!” when Yoda “heard” or sensed Anakin’s slaughter? It sounded like Qui-Gon to me. In fact, when I went the second time(in THX sound), I could have sworn it was him.

  3. Why is the force being diminished in the Jedi? I assume it’s their arrogance, but perhaps not.

  4. If the clones are made from Jango Fett, shouldn’t they be able to think for themselves and rebel? More of a plot question, but it still might be interesting to see.

There are more I assume…

As far as 2 is concerned, I think you’re right. I’m sure it’s a line from TPM that was plugged in.

To answer #4: No, because they’ve been genetically modified to respect authority and be more docile than they normally would be. Except for Jango’s “son”, Boba.

Forgive me for this dumb question:

Everyone is saying how fitting it is that Jar Jar’s bumbling led to the creation of the Empire. I must have been in the can when this happened. Can anyone explain?

Who originally placed the ‘order’ for the clone army, was he Jedi or Sith? And if you were going to clone somebody, why clone some 2-bit bounty hunter when you could clone a Jedi or Sith?

Well, why in Star Wars doesn’t C-3PO recognize Luke’s Uncle and/or why doesn’t the Uncle recognize C-3PO when he buys them from the Jawas?

2 was qui-gon, apparently the first time a jedi has spoken from beyond. in the book it explains it thusly:

" the diminutive master’s eyes popped open wide at the overwhelming strenth of that rage."

"and then he heard a voice, a familiar voice, crying,“no, anakin! no! don’t! no!”

“it was qui-gon. yoda knew that it was qui-gon. but qui-gon was dead, had become one with the force! one could not retain consciousness and sense of self in that state; one could not speak from beyond the grave.”

it also goes on to say that:

“anakin, too, had heard the voice of qui-gon, imploring him to restrain himself, to deny the rage. he hadn’t recognized it, though, for he was too full of pain and anger.”

it does mention that yoda tries to focus on the voice to find out why qui-gon was able to speak, but skywalk’s rage and pain prevented him.

How come a light saber can all of a sudden defend against force lightning?

The droids memory were wiped before the original movie (I believe by the rebellion maybe to store death star plans)

I’m starting to wonder if, in Episode III, someone (Obi-Wan or Amidala) will subtly reprogram 3P0 and R2 so that they’re inclined to protect the Skywalker children, yet can never say/do anything to reveal that they know them. This might account for the characters’ convenient attachment to Luke and Leia, yet also explain why they’ve never said “Hey, I’ve been in this hut before” or “Your father was my maker, you know.”

As for why Uncle Owen doesn’t recognize them…hey, all droids look alike. And 3P0’s got new armor by Episode IV, making him even less recognizable.

Or, maybe Owen DOES recognize them, but doesn’t want to say anything for Luke’s protection. He was pretty anxious to have their memories wiped when R2 was looking for Obi-Wan.

hate to break it to you all, but i think the real story is closer to this:

Lucas made a cute little film a long time ago. He had no idea how it would turn out. Coulda been a flop or a mild success, he didn’t know. It became amazingly popular and he decided to cash in on this bonanza by making a bunch of sequel/prequels. He’s making it up as he goes along and fitting the story into holes around the existing episodes. Like a David Lynch movie, it just doesn’t make sense sometimes and thinking about it too much will make you head explode. Lucas is smart enough to add new charecters that will make great action figures to peddel around the christmas season and to go in Happy McShit meals, cashing in ever deeper.

it just a movie folks, move along, nothing more to see here…

Jar Jar (acting as Amidala’s alternate in the Senate) is the one who proposes that Chancellor Palpatine be given emergency powers. (Jar Jar thinks he’s doing what Amidala would do if she were there, but Palpatine uses those powers to accept control over the clone army in the name of the Republic, whereas Amidala was opposed to the formation of an army. We always knew Jar Jar was an idiot.)

I think it’s pretty clear that Palpatine/Sidious is behind the unauthorized creation of the clone army–I mean, the Jedi Council evidently never heard of it until Obi-Wan stumbled across it. Obviously, the cloner aliens thought they were fulfilling a perfectly aboveboard defense contract for the government of the Republic, but they were being manipulated and lied to by Darth Sidious, just like everyone else in the Galaxy.

I dunno why not make an army of cloned force-users, unless maybe it’s because they’d be a little too powerful, and might be too much to handle, docility-inducing genetic modifications or not. That said, Jango Fett seems to be a pretty good fighter.

I guess you just have to be a baddass enough Jedi.

Artoo always knows. Threepio has a bad experience with a polisher that traumatizes him so badly, he blocks out the memories.

What do you mean, all of a sudden? Why wouldn’t it? When did we ever see anyone wield a saber against it before? The only other time we’ve seen the lightning at all was when the emperor zapped Luke–who had just thrown his saber away in defiance–and then Vader–who was literally disarmed.

I think dalovindj is speaking from gaming experience.

Ah. Well, LucasArts is not as canonical as Georgie boy.

Not to necessarily contradict MEBuckner, but while the force seems to have a hereditary link, it’s knowledge and use is learned/trained. So were you to clone say, Darth Maul, you might have an army of troopers “with whom the force is strong”, but they wouldn’t be an army of Sith.

Compound that with the subtle genetic engineering performed to keep Clone troopers “in line”, and the chance for the force to be a significant factor in the life of the average Clone Trooper could be theoretically nil.

(besides which, IIRC the Fett’s have a measure of hereditary “Force” in them, yet none of them are Jedi)

Obi-wan makes him forget when he drops Luke off.

Here’s another one? How is it that Padme looks like she has only aged three years yet Jake Lloyd looks to be ten years older?

Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha…Oh, you 're serious, aren’t you?

Well, while Natalie Portman is still playing the Princess/Senator, Jake Lloyd has made his way to Hollywood has-Been status and been replaced by Hayden Christenson.
