Seriously, the originals (well, Eps 4 and 5) were where he permanently blew his cinematic wad. I’d hate to see what he would do to them if he remade them.

The problem is that Lucas has said so many Ogdamned different things about the whole saga that it’s impossible to believe anything he says. “I only had one movie in mind.” “I’ve always thought that it should be a series of nine films.” “I only wanted to make six movies.” “This is the way I wanted to make the movies.” “There’s only been one version of these movies.” “Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.”
Supposedly, Lucas is talking about reworking the films so that they’re in 3-D, which if they were the original films, and had only a digital clean up along with the 3-D effect, I could handle going to see them. However, I’m sure they’ll be the post-Crayola versions. Lucas is also considering doing a TV series and having Kevin Smith be in charge of it, which could be a good thing, since Lucas doesn’t seem to get what the hell his creation’s all about.
I have watched The Great Escape many many times and I love it each time I watch it.
