The new trilogy is actually going to ge a sweeping biopic about the foibles and adventures of jar jar.
Dear OG, please no. Robot Chicken did it right
The Reaver(Capt)
I wonder why they don’t aim for 2016 and have them write all three episodes and film all of them at the same time…like Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.
It saves a ton of money and they know they are making three movies…so why not do it?
I haven’t followed the reaction to the new Trek films too closely, but didn’t a lot of old fans rage like crazy? So no need to deflect blame away from JJ Abrams. He can be the destroyer of all nerd dreams. Maybe he could be the one to unite the two fandoms together!
Essentially they are. The plan is to release them only two years apart, so effectively there’s no gap between ending one film’s production and beginning the next. For all the previous Star Wars films there was at least six months, even up to a year’s, gap.
I’m a Trekker from 'way back and I enjoyed the J.J. Abrams ST reboots, despite having a zillion or two nitpicks. I’ll see the new SW movies when they come out, I’m sure. Hope Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will all make appearances in their original roles. If Jar Jar dies in some horribly painful way (“Ooo, meesa hurts very, very bad!”), so much the better.
You could have run it through a wood chipper for similar results.
Filming on 35mm is the least of the concerns for this monstrosity.
It’s gonna be watered-down, Disney-fied garbage.
Eh? It’s not like the originals were torture porn or something. I’m pretty sure they’re not going to insist on a song and princess. Well, maybe a princess.
Well, you can’t know for sure. Sometimes big studios, big producers, and big directors, etc. produce some great work. It’s totally 50/50 at this point as to whether it will be good.
I predict the film will be about a Spunky Sith Princess & her Cute Animal Sidekick, who go on an adventure of discovery, personal growth, an terrorizing an unsuspecting Galaxy with her pinky, sparkly lightsaber.
I predict you’re wrong.
The original Star Wars is a family-friendly fairy-tale in space.
The difficulties with a new Star Wars movie include:
[ul]
[li]Making it as good as the original trilogy. Whatever that means.[/li][li]Including all the things that the fans love from the original trilogy. Which most would imagine as very specific individual things, but if you asked around enough fans the list would add up to almost every single thing in each movie. Including the Ewoks.[/li][li]Appealing to the 35-55yr old fans who grew up with the movies, as well as to the ten year olds that it’s really supposed to be for, just as those aforementioned fans were that age when they first saw and fell in love with the films. The Marvel movies are managing to bridge that gap successfully, so there’s hope there.[/li][li]Being as good as subsequent Star Wars stories. There have been many books, comics, TV, and video games which have been quite sophisticated and dark, and a lot of fans want something along those lines this time.[/li][li]Being a super-duper success. It’s almost impossible for them not to be, but the audiences are currently very cynical about Star Wars sequels and JJ Abrams sequels, and these movies have to overcome that. Very tough to achieve.[/li][li]Being the films that the creators want to make.[/li][/ul]
I do not envy them. I would much rather work on the oft-proposed live-action TV series than carry the burden of a new trilogy of movies.
98% of all Disney films of the last 30 years are like that–why pay for a new script?
Just like thy did with Marvel!
Oh, wait…
I agree with the original author that it would have been better to have new roles in the lead.
I predict that a lot of random. cool sounding stuff that lead to a lot of questions that will never have an answer will happen.
producers are also searching for a 20-something female actress who is either of mixed race or black to play either the daughter or granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Wha? I hope this isn’t true, when the hell did Obi father her or her mother on Tattoine?
Any chance of the prequel chracters returning? Both Portman and Jackson are doing Disney movies and McGregor has said he would be intersted. Where the hell is Hayden whatshiname again.
Well he
20 years in a desert with nothing else to do. It was either her or the Banthas.
well done, sir.
