The A-wing is the best for fighter to fighter combat.
But I don’t think they even mention the A or B wing in the movies although they are seen in RotJ. The Y-wing is featured in ANH on the death star run.
Why the heck do they call it a B-Wing. It looks nothing like the letter B from any angle that I can see.
X-Wing from the back or front with the wings open.
Y -Wing Top down view with the ship going down. (very appropriate for the Y-Wing)
A-Wing Top down view with the ship going up.
B-Wing ???
I had a heck of a time answering this feud because it was hard to remember if various stuff was in the movies, or more emphasized in the EU. I ended up going with Y wing because I was sure I remembered it on film … the A wings get more mention in the books, I think.
WAG: It’s B for Bomber. That’s it’s role after all.
Or when I’m playing Tie Fighter it’s B for Buggered. They fly like Cows strapped to Piano’s. Easy kill.
ETA, another thought, IRRC they were designed after the A wing. Maybe they were named in the project before the design was drawn up during “Project Shantipole”
Apparently it’s supposed to look like a *lower-case * B…
If you squint really hard and ignore the two stubby wings you can sort of see it from a front or rear view. It should really be called the “upside-down ankh-wing” though.
I could see it as a lower case b if it was a side view and the craft was upside down.
I think a t fighter with a rear or front view with the wings open is better.
I did will flying it in the game but I suspect that the game was rather forgiving about collisions with that swinging spar.
