A trailer for the third season of Star Wars Rebels just hit YouTube and everyone’s favourite expanded universe villain appears to be the main bad guy.
Seems to be like his book counterpart; cold and calculating.
Makes me wonder if Disney is pulling a “Marvel” with the Star Wars canon and taking some of the best characters from the EU and implementing them in new ways. Maybe we’ll see Mara Jade on the big screen someday. Maybe she’s Rey’s mom?
There’s really nothing new about this. The old EU was branded “legends” in order to suggest that it can be heavily mined and included in the canon (which is how it’s always been, TBH).
Awesome to see Thrawn back, he was always a great character. Always pictured him with a deeper voice, though.
Mara Jade would be another good one to bring back, though part of what made her interesting was her relationship with Luke. Of course they could put that all back in (lots of time between ROTJ and TFA) but it’d be a lot of backstory that’s easier when it’s just “Luke stayed a bachelor and was a new Yoda.” Or they could just do it as a “lost love” type romance.
I’ll continue to hold out for the return of Kyle Katarn.
I’ve been really enjoying this season. Thrawn is an interesting adversary, allowing them to escape with things they need just to gain more information on them.
And today’s episode, S03E11 had me geeking the fuck out. I’ve enjoyed the Maul episodes and I really liked the Night Sisters and Mother Talzin in SW:CW*. This one just had so many cool little elements and I especially enjoyed that Sabine got an item at the end.
I always loved the ‘repeat everything she says, or maybe not quite what she said, in a super deep voice a fraction of a second later’ bit with Mother Talzin. In fact, I’ve created Mother Dreadful, a Dread Hag, ruler of the Hag Lands and one of Lamashtu’s 7 for a Pathfinder setting I’m creating, based partly on this character (and a couple of others).
Based on the kid Han and Leia had in Ep7 vs the kids they had in the old books, they’re clearly not connected, at least not directly. but it’s still nice that one of the best villains of the old EU has survived into the new one.
Bump time. I’ve watched bits and pieces over the season - I’ll have to wait for the BD to actually watch the series - but I was particularly disappointed with the clips I’ve seen of the finale. It just wasn’t even a shadow on the Season 2 finale. I mean, they get captured and they escape? That’s it?
Yes, I thought that the battle aspects of the final two episodes were really, really badly done. To quote The Ugly, “When you have to shoot, shoot, don’t talk!”
I just finished watching the 2-part finale for the 5th time. I really like it. Only 3 ships escape (Ghost, Blockade Runner, Hammerhead) out of close to a dozen. There were at least 5 blockade runners, only one got away. They lost the carrier, all 3 of General Dodanna’s frigates, one of two hammer heads, all of the cargo ships, almost all of their fighters.
I wouldn’t say ‘escaping after 90% losses’ was an easy victory. Or a victory.
I also thought at the beginning they were starting four years before A New Hope. Which would put that movie at the end of next season. :D:D:D
