I watched every SW movie before going to see this one. Trust me, it’s got nothin’ on the Emperor referring to Luke as the “son of Skywalker” in ESB, which was so stilted I almost wondered for a sec if Lucas originally intended for Vader to be lying about being Luke’s father.
Daughter of Ezra and Sabine?
Jabba and Leia. That’s why Leia thought to give her a motherly hug and Han didn’t.
I once heard a kid can get conceived by The Force.
The lightsaber was the same one Anakin used in EP III. When he tried to flip over Obi Wan on Mustafar and got both legs and his one remaining biological arm cut off by Kenobi. Obi Wan left Anakin on the banks of the lava flow but took the lightsaber with him. Kenobi kept the lightsaber with him until EP IV at which point he gave it to Luke. Luke lost the light saber when his hand got cut off by Vader in EP V during their first duel. Somehow Maz Kanata got a hold of it after that Someone must’ve found it on Bespin
So what you’re saying is that Rey will lose it by getting her hand cut off.
No, not at all. I was just trying to clear up who the lightsaber belonged to. It belonged to both Anakin and Luke.
It was a joke
They probably can’t use TK on themselves, since Jedi can’t fly. Palpatine fell to his death, in any case.
However, they can lift other people. So can two Jedi lift each other and fly through the air?
Not fly, but leap straight up with impossible speed and height. See Luke in the carbon freeze pit & Obiwan on the ledge under Darth Maul for a few examples. It’s very puzzling that Palpatine fell to his death, but maybe he was taken by surprise and couldn’t react quickly enough? or Luke and/or Vader were pushing him down with the force while he tried to push up? Or whatever magnetic or electrical fields or what have you that were in the pit exerted a pull downward? I dunno…
Psst: see post 27.
What is with the men of the skywalker line being whingy gits?
did ren die when the star killer exploded? I don’t remember him getting away.
Interesting sword in the stone thing with the light saber in the trunk. I’m reckoning that Luke somehow found it in bespin. (Hey, lando, the next time you clean out some of the conduits, would you mind looking for a lightsaber?)
Interesting bit with Han dying the same way qui-gon did. Unusual red lightsaber though the middle.
Really liked bb8.
Saw it this morning.
It’s not a bad movie, not bad in the sense of EP’s 1-3, more like a good movie in the vein of EP 6.
The beats in comparison with the original Star Wars are almost too similar. I shouldn’t be sitting in the audience thinking "Okay, so this will happen in the next scene, this will happen in the scene after that, etc…
• Opening with hidden message in droid.
• Young (future jedi) person living on desert planet
• Bar filled with myriad of aliens with alien band playing music
• Empire, I mean New Order with HUGE planet blasting gun- BUT it has a flaw that can destroy entire structure if small band of rag tag rebels can infiltrate.
• Older character that younger character looks up to is killed by bad guy who’s gone over to the dark side of the force.
So yeah, we’ve seen this structure before.
Not many surprises here either.
• They tell us early on that Kylo Ren is Han & Leia’s son
• With Harrison Ford getting SOOOO much screen time it’s pretty easy to figure out that he’ll be the one they’ll kill.
The only question I have unanswered is, is Rey the cild of Luke’s or could Han & Leis had twins (Kylo & Rey) since in human species, twins do following family trees.
But that was so 104 posts ago. But thanks ![]()
Snoke tells General Hux to bring Kylo to him to complete his training, so I assume that’s what happened.
Hopefully he and R2 will get more screen time together in the next one.
I’m not a Stars Wars nerd at all but thought I would check it out, unfortunately I ended up in the front row of the cinema and had a balls of a time trying to make sense of the bullshit 3D. Seriously, 3D can fuck right off.
But, I actually enjoyed that. I don’t care that its a greatest hits movie, it probably needed to be to wash off the stink of the prequels and now that they have put the train back on the tracks they can do something else in the next films. It felt like a Stars Wars movie, it felt fun, it felt enjoyable and that was the most important thing. And seriously, who gives a toss what age Hans son was.
Seems that a few people totally missed that scene if they are now wondering how she got so good with a lightsaber so quick. She is well used to kicking ass with a stick, they showed you that.
I thought that scene was before it all went to pieces. Was it after the planet thingy blew up?
There’s a lot of complaining about how she was able to stand to up Ren at the end. To add to your point, Ren had also caught a blaster bolt to the side and 1 (maybe 2, can’t remember) strikes from Finn on the lightsaber before this as well. So, its pretty plausible she was able to overcome him, despite no training. One could also argue she has better mental discipline, which played out in an earlier scene - living alone and independent for so long, not fearful of much, of better character, etc.
Jeez I sound like a nerd but I don’t get all the complaining about how she managed to stand up for herself when she had to. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and there is nothing in prior “canon” (whatever that is now) to suggest that this was an implausible scenario.
Also, something I’ve mentioned repeatedly in the past: in ATTACK OF THE CLONES, there’s a bit where Jango Fett shoots at a Jedi, who parries blast after blast after blast after – oh, look; one just got past that Jedi’s guard; fight’s over. Huh.
My guess is that they were going to explain who Rey is related to, but decided not to in the edit. Maybe that’s so Rian Johnson doesn’t have to use that in his movie (he’s directing Episode VIII). He is now open to have her be related to somebody we know or nobody special at all.
Having said that, I think it is heavily implied she’s Luke’s daughter.
