The lightsaber duels in the prequel are mostly (all?) terrible. Completely souless. The Darth Maul fight has great music and a great opening scene, the actual fight itself is poor.The main duels in both Empire and Return of the Jedi are significantly better than every single prequel fight. The Obi Wan vs Vader fight in A New Hope is, admittedly, stilted and awkward.
On top of all that, you can see the plastic rod that was Obi-Wan’s lightsaber when he moves it end-on to the camera. They missed that when they overlayed the “light.”
The prequels weren’t my favorite but even at the time I found some things I could like. I did gain a greater appreciation for the prequels after watching episodes VII, VIII, and IX. At least the prequels were cohesive.
That last one is interesting, as one of the main complaints I’ve heard about the prequels is that they the swordfighting as worse. They think making it flashy misses the point.
