Starguard banned?

If you’re going to ban a member with nearly 700 posts, I would prefer that you’d just lock the thread that causes it, rather than delete it. Otherwise there’s not any history, other than the secret mod banning database.

It doesn’t matter what you believe.

It doesn’t matter what people believe? Guess we should close IMHO, GD etc down then, since noone’s going to be able to post an opinion or an argument etc.

That was unnecessary. Don’t be such a tool.

This usually depends on the reason for banning. If the member was banned for some offense other than trolling/socking, the threads are usually left as they are.

Sometimes, if I believe the answers to a GQ benefit our membership at large, I’ll leave the thread in GQ.

A lot of times there is no history in any of the threads started by a troll/sock. So, even if you read all the threads you’d be puzzled as to why a user was banned. Some of our mods/admins have a black belt in troll kung fu, and it’s amazing.

And some trolls, such as Starguard, cut their own throats by proclaiming their evildoings, which is also amazing.

I think this board is about to jump the shark.

We generally prefer to deal with questions about bannings in email, primarily to respect the individual’s privacy, but also because we don’t want a lot of fuss made about trolls and trolling.

The troll’s raison d’etre is to stir up a fuss, and he/she doesn’t much care how he/she does it. Discussion about what-a-jerk-that-troll-was satisfies their need to create a fuss. Consequently, when we ban a troll, we usually “disappear” the threads they’ve started as well.

In this case, we had poster who admitted to trolling. We looked at the last several threads this person had started, and agreed that they were pretty much provocation for no sound reason. Thus, the troll was banned and the last bunch of threads were disappeared – they had only a handful of responses, generally speaking. Unfortunately, some of the earlier threads had enough responses that we didn’t want to start wholesale disappearing.

We would certainly prefer that this be the end of it. Further discussion is feeding the troll, n’est-ce pas?
