Starship's "We Built This City" - Why the hate?

Be really creepy if it was death by snakebite.

Never heard of him, and this Starship has nothing to do with the bastards that perpetrated WBTC on the world.

singing italian songs.. will you help him change the world.. yes i will lol

I loved that song as a kid.. Thought it was a nice Robert Lamm ditty about grant park in the 70’s.. every song can’t be Dialogue 1 and 2..

@Boyo Jim: LOL you are absolutely right! I wonder if he was playing with the mamba instead of the mambo.

I don’t get why anybody could hate such an awesome song!

In my opinion, it goes great with almost any party or disco!

Zombies, what can you do with them? You can bury them over and over again, and they still keep coming back.

As far as the song is concerned, really the only reason to hate it is the lineage of Starship back to Jefferson Airplane via Jefferson Starship.

Other than that, it’s inconsequential mid-1980s fluff, not good enough to get excited about, not bad enough, or even popular enough, to bother hating. It isn’t painful to listen to in the way that Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” or Whitney Houston’s take on “I Will Always Love You” is.

It might bore you to death, though.

This zombie revival certainly doesn’t meet my standards.

I don’t know about that. Check you the lyrics. I don’t expect pop songs to be Shakespeare, but what the Hell?

What city? How was it “built on rock and roll?” Why is Marconi playing the mambo?
etc, etc.

Yes, but what foods does it go with?

Wow, of all the threads I did, this is one I never expected, or ever wanted to be resurrected. And it’s happened twice.

The purpose of this thread was to find out why people were bashing the song in other threads. In 2012 and now I haven’t noticed the song being brought up so this thread seems pointless to me now. Whatever. The thread seems to have taken on a life of its own for whatever reason.

And for those who hate this song and have to be reminded of it every time someone bumps it, I am so, so sorry.:frowning: I’d feel the same way if a thread about the song “I Know What Boys Like” kept popping up.

I’ve no strong feelings on the song either way - it’s too insipid, it’s just rhythmic ear gum - but I used to own this shirt, which I found highly amusing.

Shoot them in the head, double tap. Along with the remaining members of “Jefferson” Starship.

It looks like the bumper went on a 7-post zombification spree before he got topped.
