I am starting a facebook page for a professional organization I belong to. It needs to start life from a personal page but since I am not a huge FB user I don’t know if any of my personal page (contacts, posts, etc.) info will bleed into the organization page. I tried to make a second personal account dedicated just to that professional page but (I found out) that is verboten so the second account was deactivated.
So what are the worries (if any) in having a personal account that you use with a professional page attached?*
*Just to show you how non-FB savvy I am, I have no clue if that’s a stupid question or not.
I’m not sure what you’re trying to do here.
From what you’re saying, what I think you want is a facebook page for a business.
On the desktop version of FB, click on the little triangle at the top right (next the the alerts and help menu). There’s an option for “Create Group” and another for “Create Page”. You’ll want to pick one of them. Off the top of my head, I couldn’t tell you what the difference is.
This (at least with a ‘page’), is totally separate from your personal page. You’ll be the admin for it, but nothing will bleed over just due to you running it.
And, yeah, you can’t use regular [personal] facebook pages for businesses anymore. You used to be able to, but they got rid of that a few years ago.
Don’t start a Group, start a Page. JP is right, it’s totally separate from your personal page.
You DO need to have a personal FB account to be able to then go on to create a Page that you administer. So perhaps that’s where your confusion lies? If you don’t have a personal FB account first then yes, step 1 to creating a page is creating a personal account. Get that set up and you can totally ignore it if you want. But you’ll need to have that in order to go on to create a Page, where you’ll be an anonymous admin.
A group is pretty much like a forum - it’s for discussion. Typically any member can make a post and any member can respond. Random group: Summit County Lost & Found Pets
A Page is kinda more like a Twitter account. The admin or admins make posts, under the name of the Page (like, your organization’s name) and then people can comment. Random page: Ohio Firefighters Union
The only bleed through will be that as the owner of the page you will get notifications and potentially messages depending on how you set it up. I don’t think outsiders will be able to see any connection between you and the page. When I post on the page I’ve set up FB defaults to posting as the page, not as me, but I can choose to post as either.
