Starting at 9:21 PM?

Why do NCAA tournament games start at such odd times? Starting with the Final 4 (perhaps in earlier rounds as well, but I only noticed it during the round of 4), games were scheduled for such times as 7:57 and tonight’s championship is set for 9:21. Any reasons for this?

Because they had to show Everybody Loves Raymond and some other network sitcom, the CBS pregame network stuff starts at the top of the hour. Throw in the commercials that have to be shown before the game plus the player introductions etc and you have a 9:21pm start time.

Most of the games in the earlier rounds are scheduled for weird times because they have to stagger start times so there are games going on while others are in half time. That way they can do the “live look-ins”. Plus they’ll also have to estimate what time the earlier games will end. Of course, overtimes and refs calling a million fouls make all game start times except the first ones of the day approximate.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t show the national anthem like they do for NFL and MLB and just about every other sporting event…? I guess that is an NCAA thing…??

Looks like Georgia Tech is outmatched so far…
