Starting life anew or the things we do for love

Seriously! I was skeptical back when this whole thing was starting, but that looks awesome. Congratulations and best of luck.

I agree: You guys make a cute couple, and that’s a gorgeous waterfall. I’m a little jealous now. Hope things continue to go happily for ya.

Good for you, for just closing your eyes and jumping (metaphorically, of course). It takes a lot of guts to go after happiness in life.

10th Anniversary update: so far so good!

Some times taking chances pays off, it’s been an amazing decade.
Here’s the latest photo I have of us together, taken a month or so ago after trekking for five days up and down the Himalayas to the Annapurna Base Camp; I think it’s fitting, it was a long, hard walk, but we kept at it and in the end it was so rewarding.

I’ll be honest. I saw this thread and didn’t initially look at the date but I was sure you were being scammed and were crazy to move across the world to be with somebody you’ve never met in person. I now humbly admit that I was wrong and far too cynical. Congratulations on 10 years together.

Wow! What a blast from the past. I remember reading this when you first posted about it all those years ago. Glad that you’re still doing well.

Thanks, doing well not just in the relationship department; at the end of the first month here, before getting my first salary, I had the equivalent of 20 Dollars in my pocket, today I’m working in opening a tech company.
Not that I’m wallowing in cash now… but someone came along said “cool ideas, I’ll foot the bill, lets get rolling!”, if there’s something I’ve learned in this past years is that chasing dreams is OK, it takes a lot of work and commitment but it’s totally worth it.
For example, I quit school at 18 or so, I wanted to do 3D animation as a career and there wasn’t any good courses for it in my country at that time, my parents thought I was crazy deciding to quit my formal education to basically indulge in a hobby, but I kept at it, learning by myself; eventually I helped to start the first 3D animation studio in my country, the first six months working for free, in the end it worked out OK, I got the career I wanted and it allowed me to move to Thailand to be with my GF when that twist of fate came along.
Now it’s a similar situation, I started dabbing in 3D printing as a hobby a couple years ago, and by dabbing I mean spending lots of time learning about it, even designing and building my own 3D printer; even my GF wondered what was it all for, just a hobby! but then that’s what led to that tech company I mentioned before.

Congratulations. My own Thai lady and I will celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary this year, and we’ve been together 25 years. Don’t believe anyone who tries to tell you Western-Thai relationships never work out, and such harbingers of doom are legion.
