Oops!
Um, no, I loved it.
But yes, very married.
Wow, you just really harbor a grudge over all the times I’ve handed you your ass over the last ten or twelve years, don’t you?
You’re some kind of psychologist or counselor or something, aren’t you? Does it really not occur to you than your almost obsessive attacks on me and anyone who attempts to talk to me in a reasonable and adult manner (especially if they’re women) only serve to reveal your own insecurities, and how each defeat over the years has obviously reinforced in your own mind what a loser you are, and that by lashing out at me (and them) what you’re really doing is trying to seek revenge and to create some semblance of self-respect and affirmation that will allow you to maintain the illusion that you’re at least in some way a worthwhile, knowledgeable and respectable person?
Well let me tell you, you’re going about it all wrong. Pretty much everything you do just highlights what a bitter, frustrated loser you really are. If I were you I’d stop trying to engage me, for you’re badly outgunned there, and stop trying to bully whichever women seem to be trying to engage me in a sensible, reasonable manner since because you never do that with any of the men who show up occasionally to offer a dispassionate and uncritical comment on my posts it only serves to reveal you to be a person with, at best, subliminal misogynistic inclinations.
Yes, please.
Say what?? I’m pretty sure I never said that. It sounds like in thinking about it since you’ve gotten some of it pretty badly mixed up.
Oh, you’re one of those, eh? Liberals can’t be said to do such and so because I’m a liberal and I don’t! I’m curious to know if you equivocate like this when blanket statements are made about conservative goals and accomplishments.
The fact of the matter is that liberals for decades have striven, through political influence, parole board appointments and judicial activism to get criminals released from prison as soon as possible and for any of a number of reasons, from overcrowding to racism to lack of rehabilitative success to overall ineffectiveness as a punishment. On this very board I’ve seen liberals express pride over the hard work they’ve put in trying to get prison sentences reduced and to install parole boards more amenable to early release.
The result is that it’s not uncommon at all for some dickweed with a rap sheet of serious offenses a mile long to be out and on the streets while still in their late twenties or early thirties, committing rape, armed robbery, murder, etc., when by rights they would never have been on the street in the first place had they been made to serve the time they were sentenced to serve by a duly empaneled jury and in accordance with the law.
Nothing I said in that post is wrong. Every bit of it is either obvious (being shot, stabbed, or having acid thrown in the face being worse than rape, etc.) or substantiateable (the incredibly stupid idea and eventual practice of passing kids from one grade to the other with their having to learn anything first).
I’d be quite happy to discuss any of that post that you happen to think is either wrong or “cray-cray” :roll eyes:, and as long as you maintain a reasonable and respectful tone I’ll promise to do the same with you.
One caveat though. My time will be somewhat limited the next few days so my replies may be some time in coming.
Well, of course. The character of my opinions are largely conservative, and I don’t beat around the bush or try to moderate my comments so as to lessen possible offense. The first few years I was here I did, but it accomplished nothing. I still came in for the same abuse, plus every kind of obfuscatory tactic possible. So I decided I’d just state my case openly and unequivocally and let the chips fall where they may. This is highly annoying to many of my opponents because it deprives them of the dishonest tactics they like to use to derail arguments they don’t like, but like I’ve said before, if my opponents here don’t like my style of posting they have only themselves to blame. If most of the posters in the threads I become involved in behaved more like Spice Weasel’s, for example, you and they would find my posting style to be a great deal different.
If Hentor’s insults of you carry all that meaning, what does it mean when you insult him?
I know! The good ones are always taken.
That he’s a douchebag.
Is that the Golden Rule again? You never did tell us what you think it says.
On a more serious note though, when there’s conflict between us he’s pretty much always the instigator. He just can’t seem to let mention of my name go past without offering an insult or negative opinion of some sort. That’s what makes it apparent that he holds a grudge.
And in so doing that he’s not very smart.
I don’t think what it says, I know what it says.
If you guys were as clever as you try to be with your semantic games you’d have realized that I beat you to the punch by virtue of having said it was “sort of like” the Golden Rule.
It was never intended to be an actual iteration of the Golden Rule.
And now if everyone will excuse me, I got chit to do.
And good night to you, Spice Weasel. I appreciate your posts and hope that Hector’s attempts to bully you into refraining from making them will fall on deaf…eyes? Well, you know what I mean.
“Writ large”, you left out the “writ large” part this time.
That aside, in what way is “act like an asshole to me and I’ll act like an asshole to you” even remotely, distantly, ‘sort of’ like the Golden Rule?

No, sorry. Just a bad read of your post on my part.
By being the total and compete opposite of it? The inverse!
Can you describe this “gender effect” in any more detail? Or what this “gender effect” would potentially be?
Uhhhh, they both have to do with the concept of reciprocity?
It is pretty distant and remote, though; their relationship could almost be described as a zuegma.
One being a transactional proposition and the other a desiderata.
Dat da wimmins luv a starving artist?
I wouldn’t bother. Effectively, what you would be trying to refute are the contents of one person’s head, which bear no particular relation to objective reality and which, in any event, appear not to be so widely shared that refutation actually matters to begin with.
With that said, let’s look at a small part of the post under discussion:

Presumes to substitute his own opinion for your own or that of anyone else, without any known credentials that would give him authority to do so.
Not entirely fact-free, but a highly garbled and absurdly simplistic reframing of a complex problem. Any attempt to argue against this assertion is pointless as there are no specific examples attached to it. Nevertheless, if the above does not represent your personal opinion, or of persons you know who are of like ideology, it’s perfectly valid to say so. Your assertions are as good as his, and better if you provide concrete examples that he, for whatever reason, cannot.
This is classic Starving Artist, referring to something that would require reviewing the entire history of this board to factually refute. If one ever asks him to support HIS assertion, however, which is of course the way this should work, he will reply something along the lines of how it’s been stated “dozens, if not hundreds of times” (a phrase he uses frequently), but without ever bringing up a specific example of this thing that supposedly is so easy to find.
Well, of course; nothing in his post does not appear to be his actual opinion. By "wrong’ however (and I hope you agree), we are mostly referring to statements of fact, and there just aren’t any.

I strongly suspect this can’t be fixed.

It can’t, and as I said at the beginning, there is no evidence that enough people actually fall for this schtick that it is worth bothering oneself over it. I’m sure some people enjoy taking this crap apart as a sort of logical exercise; I certainly have, but I can’t be bothered any more. No one is obligated to accept Starving Artist’s opinions of their politics or ideology as factual, for the simple reason that he is almost completely incapable of providing objective evidence for his assertions.
