I cannot imagine having to listen to it. I only watched a few minutes this morning and it was like watching someone try to sprint through molasses up to their waist. Like one of those dreams wehre you just keep trying to get somewhere but you never, ever do. I wanted to scream inside of 5 minutes.
The fact that these charges were even brought on this flimsy evidence is a travesty. There should be an ethics investigation on the prosecutor who wrote that probable cause novel and bowed to political pressure to allow this miscarriage of justice.
The other side is still trying: No Zimmerman DNA Under Martin’s Fingernails! screams a headline. So what? Everyone admits there was a physical altercation, the only debate is who started what. Why does it matter that there is no DNA under his fingernails? Or that there are none of his prints on Zimmerman’s gun? Did Z every say that he actually grabbed the gun and held it so as to make a nice fingerprint?
And this is the part of Team Zimmerman that I just can not comprehend.
An unarmed kid, doing absolutely nothing wrong, is dead.
What part of that can you not wrap your head around?
If you spend at least 5-6 minutes following and trying to find an unarmed kid and he ends up DEAD BECAUSE YOU SHOOT HIM, at the very least you absolutely 100% should have your ass hauled to court.
That you seem to think that shooting first and not having to answer questions later is the preferred way to go is mind-numbing. That you think that, even with all the inconsistencies and improbabilities in Zimmerman’s story, Martins’ family don’t deserve their time in court to find out what happened to their kid, is so depressing.
Like I said - I’m oh so glad I don’t live in Florida, where shooting first means you don’t have to ask questions later.
Dragon Ash: That sums it up right there.
I agree with all of this, except the part about Zimmerman’s future being on the line. It seems there was never enough evidence to put him at risk, and this trial made his previously going nowhere future secure. Don’t you remember the recorded gleeful telephone calls between him and his wife when they were talking about the donation money pouring in? They might be penniless now, but soon there’ll be book money, tv movie money, Fox News gigs for the whole family, speaking engagements, etc. He’ll never have to do a hard day’s work again in his life. There are people out there right now who envy this stupid bastard.
Could you clarify this?
To put them through the experience of reliving their son’s death, and to bring up all of Martin’s bad habits, when there was no cause to bring it to trial, strikes me as disrespectful. I’m sure there will be no closure for them here, but it seems like there was never a chance of that, and this farce will have only made things worse.
The mind boggles at how you can state that as undisputed fact. Is it not wrong to attack someone with a sucker punch and then viciously beat that person?
Of course it is wrong. The question is whether it happened. Or so I would have thought.
The part where he was beating up Zimmerman.
NO.
At the very least you should be hauled to a police station and a thorough investigation should occur.
Police investigate. Prosecutors make decisions about what charges (if any) the weight of the evidence supports. Courts evaluate the evidence gathered to determine if a crime can be proven.
Sadly we have seen a few mis-steps in the investigation by the police and crime scene technicians. (e.g. bagging a wet piece of clothing in a plastic evidence bag resulting in likely destruction of some DNA evidence.) Travyon Martin and his family deserve better. George Zimmerman and his family deserve better.
Hey guys can you please try a little bit harder to track? He was referring to the fact that before Zimmerman decided to focus on him he was doing absolutely nothing wrong. Do you really not understand that? Do you really want us to believe that you believe after arguing with him for days that he has now changed his position completely to one of Martin doing nothing at all at any point?Come on. You really look like you Are misunderstanding for the fun of it.
It’s not unusual to decide against prosecuting a weak case. That decision is one of a DA’s more important duties. Trials are very expensive. Sometimes marginal cases go to a grand jury and they make a recommendation to prosecute.
The state has almost wrapped up their portion of the trial. I just haven’t seen anything to indicate this wasn’t self defense. I wish it had gone to a grand jury originally. I think they would have recommended against prosecuting.
My biggest concern is a hung jury. Political pressure would probably require yet another trial.
The defense still has to present a strong case and make sure they get an acquittal. Next week is very critical for George’s future.
Are you psychic? Because that is not what he said.
If Martin did absolutely nothing wrong, he’d be alive.
The defense still needs to present a strong case next week. There’s no way of knowing what the jury is thinking. This isn’t over yet.
I learned a lot about self defense from the Jag lawyer’s testimony. His short hypotheticals cleared up some nagging questions that I had. Especially the statement that a person doesn’t have to sustain massive injuries before defending themselves.
George did exaggerate how badly he was beaten. But he was in fear of his life. He didn’t have the option to retreat or run away. It seems like self defense to me.
Has it occured to you yet that perhaps the latter might be in doubt due to the former?
Are you saying that Martin used his Jedi mindmeld tricks and *forced *Zimmerman to get out of his truck and spend 3-4 minutes outside, in the rain, in the dark, doing anything -but- go back to his truck?
For the period of time starting with George’s NEN call up until the confrontation started, please show me your evidence as to Martin’s illegal activities that justified George following him for a quarter of a mile and shooting him.
nm
If it is in doubt he is not guilty.
No. he used his hands, his fists, and his body mass to prevent Zimmerman getting up and getting away.
Following him is not an action that requires justification. Shooting him was justified because Zimmerman was in reasonable fear of death or serious injury. Whether Martin was engaged in illegal activity at any time is not actually relevant to the case, although it’s pretty obvious that he illegally punched and continued to attack Zimmerman.
Theres been testimony that George was seen on the ground being beaten by Trayvon. At that point the option to run away no longer existed.
The decision to get out of the truck is something I’m still not sure about. I need to hear closing arguments and see how the prosecution connects the dots. It’s easy to look back now and say he should have stayed in the truck. But at the time George thought Trayvon was long gone. At least that’s George’s story. That’s something the jury will have to look at closely.
I think there’s reasonable doubt and that means acquittal.
That doesn’t mean George didn’t make mistakes that night. This could have been avoided if both men had acted differently. Trayvon should have simply went into his home. George should have stayed in the truck. But they didn’t do that.
George was the one with the gun. George is the one that caused someone else to die. Guess what? In this country when your mistakes end up with someone dead, you should go to jail.
Suppose George died; testimony essentially like George’s, except that Martin says George tried to grab him, fight ensued, George hit his head and died. Martin says he was afraid for his life because he (correctly) feared the guy following him was armed.
Guilty or not guilty?
We can’t send Martin to jail; he’s dead. And I wouldn’t call deliberately attacking someone a “mistake”.

Shodan
