Stating The Obvious: Stevie Ray Vaughn Was Really Fucking Good!

I hadn’t listened to SRV much during my marriage, but now that I am in the process of a divorce its changing my musical preferences due to my mood.

I started another thread awhile ago about Stevie Ray asking for input on guitarists that sound like him. After listening to a few of those and digging deeper, I came to the conclusion that SRV has no equal in what he does, especially since he couldn’t read music and played by ear, unlike technical guys like Vai.

SRV is the best all around rock/blues guitarist that ever lived. He’s fucking amazing in his ability to evoke emotions.

Here’s my evidence: - YouTube

Caveat: watch it all if you havent seen it before and like geetar. He gets a few “Third Stone From The Sun” licks in there too.

I just don’t think that I could point to a better example of a gritty bluesman that could play fast, fierce and ferocious like SRV did and call him better.

Somebody needs to calm me down. I guess I am asking for blues songs to listen to that are as good as what I get out of SRV as someone that appreciates good guitar playing over lyrics (for the blues).

I’m not much into blues myself, but my father loves Stevie Ray Vaughn, and he really enjoys Joe Bonamassa.

I don’t have any suggestions, but I too love SRV. The first time I heard his version of “Little Wing,” I was driving and had to pull over and weep, it was so good.

Count me among the SRV fans. Only Hendrix outdoes him. Robin Trower has some good chops as well, but not so bluesy as SRV … but do check out “Bridge of Sighs” by Trower.

Meh. You lost me at “all around”. I’m a fan of SRV, but to me everything he plays sounds very distinctly like SRV. There are others who can play *anything *well (Tommy Emmanuel comes to mind), from blues/rock to classical to flamenco.
