Steam Christmas Sale has started!

That Hard Reset game isn’t bad. Not sure if I’ll grab it but if you like old school PC shooters doom style, it seems to have it down pretty well with lots of novelty weapons. Nice graphics too.

Renegade ops is a kind of weird dual stick shooter… but car based. I wouldn’t grab it at $5 but you can get a 4 pack for $10, bringing it down to $2.50 each, so I’ll probably grab a pack, since there’s online coop.

Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition on Amazon download for $7.50. Amazing deal. Battlefield 3 for $35. Witcher 1 $3.35.

Huh. I’ll admit that I expected the Christmas Day sale to be a little more… noteworthy.

At least we have plenty of time to buy Skyrim if it wasn’t under the tree this morning.

Ha! 188 hours into a game of X3: Terran Conflict (though some of that AFK) and then they release a very enticing DLC that won’t work with previous saves. Decisions, decisions…

What do people think of fallout 3, batman, x3 or the overlord series? I’ve got several FPS and after a while they all feel the same, so I don’t know if fallout 3 is worth it.

What about something from the TrackMania series?

I want MW3, but not nearly enough to pay that much for it. I’m still happy with BF3.

Amazon has MW3 for $35 as a download if that’s closer to your price point.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn’t heard of it before, but I saw that there is a free version on Steam, so I gave it a try.

Unfortunately, there is no manual for it I could find (WHY doesn’t Steam have an easy-to-find catalog of game manuals? They could easily restrict downloads to those who have purchased the game), and unless it says how in the manual, no way to use the mouse to steer.

And when I googled about both of these issues, I found long threads consisting mostly of people laughing at anyone who would want to read a manual, or use a mouse to play a driving game.

Kind of amazing.

I really like Fallout 3. It’s been some time since I played Overlord, but I recall it as being pretty good if a bit juvenile in places (more biological humor than I really liked).

The Batman game is awesome, the best of its type ever made. It’s one of the few games that makes melee combat interesting, and it has very high production values.

Fallout 3 is good, great price for it.

Definitely true: it’s beautiful, and it’s got a serviceable storyline, and excellent voice acting, and the gameplay itself is super-cool. Lovely game.

Actually, I have a few issues with it, but that’s mainly in regards to the DLC. The main game is indeed great.

As an avid first-person-shooter PC gamer, I found the controls on Batman: Arkham Asylum to be, um, less then optimal. However, the story, voice-work, and graphics are great. I think of it more as an interactive movie experience than a game. Very enjoyable on that level. The bigger Batman fan you are, the more you’ll want to play this. Very immersive.

Fallout 3 is a great game. First-person perspective, but not a twitch-game. You can battle it out with any enemies in the tradition FPS manner, or you can pull up a computerized overlay and target enemies and body parts in a turn-based manner. There’s a very large, wide-open world to explore and tons of quests to complete. With the exception of the main storyline, you’re seldom required to do quests in a certain order. There’s a radio station with an entertaining DJ to listen to, and which reports events that you take part in. As mentioned earlier, Liam Neeson voices the character’s father. Also, Malcolm McDowell voices another character, President John Henry Eden.

I never played the older games, but Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are among my favorite games. Hundreds of hours of entertainment to be had in each. Incidentally, I tried to play Oblivion, another popular game by the same company, but didn’t enjoy it. Fallout 3 is an open game, but there are plenty of clues around if you find yourself without something to do. I found myself lost and aimless in Oblivion.

What DLC?

Are you talking about Arkham City?

Likewise. I reached some part where I had to jump roll over and over to avoid attacks and do some other move and just got frustrated with it. Shame too since I was enjoying the game up until then.

My wife got me Arkham City for Christmas so I’ll give that one a shot and hope I can make it over whatever hump the controls bring.

Well you could always use a gamepad to use the controls as they were designed. I use an xbox 360 controller when playing batman.

Yeah, I was. Didn’t think of the first one, sorry.
