I don’t have a big budget for gaming and am quite patient. So, I haven’t gotten this yet. Steam has a sale ending Jan 2nd. But, what to get? The bundles are deeply discounted, too. I’m not a completionist in terms of expansions. On the other hand, are there really substantive improvements to play that I would miss out on by not getting some of the expansions? What say you Teeming Millions? Shall I just get the base game or is some bundle the best value for my dollar?
Either are great. I had something weird happen this summer when one of the expansions seems to have backed itself out, and then it reappeared a month or two ago. I was fine playing with, without, and with it again. The bundle that went away (not sure of the name of it) included governors and Nubia, Central America, Poland and the Museum at Halicarnassus, one of the most OP wonders of the world. I can play with or without governors, since I only really use two of them, and the additional cultures don’t have anything to make them stand out. The base game works fine and seems well-balanced by itself.
Dammit, you were supposed to tell me to splurge on the big bundle! Actually, looking at it, there’s a bundle of all kinds of stuff that is only $5 difference from base game alone. The Platinum bundle is like $50 bucks (other bundle is $19) and there doesn’t seem to be much difference.
Actually, take what I said with a huge grain of salt… I’m at work and can’t check, but I don’t know what bundle I bought when I first got the game. What I’m thinking of as the base game may be most of the bundles all added in…
