If you’re only going to buy one, go for Shogun 2. It probably has the best user experience out of all the Total War games.
I’d recommend Rome 2, unless your a Japanese History Buff. More recognizable names and places and struggles.
Shogun 2 has the better campaign mechanics though.
I found Rome 2 to be really tedious, but I think I might just be Total War played out.
Thanks. I was leaning towards Shogun 2 (Shogun is maybe my 3rd favorite novel, ever) but decided to get the Master Pack which has both. I’ll put off Sunless Sea and SubNautica until the winter.
ETA: I was only interested in Shogun 2 and Rome 2. Anyone want the others, I’m willing to let them go. If Steam allows.
I am not planning on spending too much money on this sale, but I did pick up some cheapies. The** Cinemaware collection** finally went on sale so I snapped that up. Also grabbed Mark of the Ninja, Arcadecraft, Enclave, and System Shock 2.
I’ll probably pick up Road Redemption since I really liked the Road Rash series back in the day and someone upthread recommended it.
I am considering getting one of the following Terraria-ish side scroller games:
Starforge
Steamworld Dig
Magicians and Looters
Signs of Life
Craft the World
Has anyone played any of these? Any recommendations or comments?
Steamworld Dig is fun, but don’t mistake it for a Terraria-ish game. There’s no building. It’s a dungeon-delving game. You just dig down and down and down until you defeat all the bad guys and explore all the things.
I have Craft The World, but I find it fiddling and annoying to play and haven’t got past the initial startup phase.
ARK is the same price as a Daily Deal that it was yesterday. The developer said that it would be “unfair” to people who bought it earlier if he discounted it further today.
You do get some in-game sunglasses though. I guess they learned how to hold a sale from Rockstar
Don’t worry about it. In my small circle of friends, everybody that used a controller or joystick for Elite: Dangerous has gone back to their keyboard/mouse for greater control. This seems to be a personal preference thing, but if you’re used to k/m, you’ll probably prefer it.
Whereas in my circle of friends absolutely no one uses keyboard and mouse.
Eidos Anthology - all Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Thief, Hitman, Just Cause games, with all DLC, on sale for $31. Looks like it goes all the way back to the original Tomb Raider from 1996.
Thanks. I actually picked up a cheap controller. I have the option to return it within one month.
I tried some of the tutorials with it. I notice rolling is much easier. I have a tendency to move my mouse back and forth while playing so that caused me to go into spins. The controller stick seems to solve that particular issue for me. I still go back to keyboard for some functions that don’t seem to be mapped for my controller, like yaw and landing gear, and so on. I’m sticking to keyboard for menus and such. menus on a controller just seem wrong.
I tried docking in the live game, got fined $400 for loitering. This is before I knew there was a tutorial for it. :smack:
Any other noob advice?
Steam may be the biggest name sale, but GOG.com deserves a plug, I think. They’ve had a rather good sale going on the past couple of weeks, and are having a 48h finale rerunning all of their discounts. I recommend giving it a look, particularly anyone interested in the classics.
Encore deals today. Is it over so soon?
All the Tomb Raider games for £12. If I didn’t already have most of them…
I haven’t played any of the Assassin’s Creed series. Which one isn’t too outdated, plays well on PC, and serves as a introduction?
I haven’t played any of the Assassin’s Creed games and probably never will, but Black Flag - the one where you play as a pirate - and Assassin’s Creed 2 seem to be considered the best of them.
Agreed. Out of those two, AC2 is the more “traditional” AC game (scampering all over Renaissance-era Italy versus pirating in the Caribbean).
Getting Divinity Original Sin, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and XCOM: Enemy Within. I was going to get AC2 but it’s already in my library.
Was tempted by GOG’s city builder bundle but I’ve played all of them and don’t think I’ll play them like back when I loved them.
I think the only other games I’ll get are Sunless Sea and Road Redemption. They both look fun and interesting. Just going to wait until tomorrow morning to see if they go below 40%
The sale ends Monday around 1pm EST!
There are a few games in the encore game I’m considering:
-Dungeon of the Endless (Pixel edition at $6.50 or Diamond edition at $10.00)
-Metal Gear Solid V ($5.00)
-Europa Universalis IV ($10.00)
Dungeon of the Endless is not like stuff I’ve played before, but sounds fun.
I haven’t played any Metal Gear games since the first one was released on NES, but I’ve heard good things about the series over the year.
I played Europa Universalis III for a week or so a few years ago, but never finished a game of it, put off by the complexity and lack of guidance as to what was happening. The reviews of EUIV make it sound like some of the systems have been simplified.
Does anyone have any feedback on any of these three games–or does anyone see something on the encore sale that they highly recommend?
(For my part, I highly recommend Terraria, XCom, and the first two Batman games.)
