Steam Winter Sale 2012: Deals and News Here

It’s supposed to run December 20-January 4.

Not sure what I’m looking for yet, but may be up for Darksiders 2.

A couple of the Lego games and Arkham City. I’m sure I’ll find others.

I have not played either recent Batman games. Are they really that good? I’m interested.

Dishonored and AC3 are the only big titles I want that I haven’t picked up yet. I’m not expecting too much of a discount on those, though.

I can’t think of anything else I really want, but I’m sure I’ll end up spending a bunch of money anyway.

I just checked, and I bought 16 games last sale (not including DLC) and actually played 12 of them this year. That’s a much better batting average than I was expecting.

Which Lego games? The Batman one honestly doesn’t have much replay value, I’ll warn you.

I think he was talking about Arkham City/Asylum.

I can’t REALLY answer that, but I played the demo for Asylum and was left with a resounding “Meh, maybe if I liked Batman more.”.

The gameplay itself was okay, but didn’t really hit the spot for “something I want to spend hours and hours doing”…but lots of people apparently really like these games (Though lots of people also apparently really like Batman, which is something else I don’t understand. ) so there’s probably something good in there.

Arkham Asylum was great. Probably the best super hero game ever (granted, the bar was pretty low). It got just about everything right.

Batman 2 and Lord of the Rings, maybe the Harry Potter games. I know the Lego game are repetitive (most games are), but I find them fun. Nice relaxed gaming, nothing too difficult, in settings I enjoy, and I really like the humor. I believe Batman 2 and LOTR are the first two with actual scripts; not Sims-like gibberish.

Torchlight 2 and X-COM for me please.

I flippin love the Batman games. The gameplay is so smooth, and the fighting is just lovely to watch, and it’s really a rhythm game hidden behind a beautiful aesthetic. They’re definitely some of my favorite games of the last few years.

Things I’m hoping for: X-Com (the new one, I just couldn’t take the old one’s graphics); possibly Torchlight 2; possibly Dishonored; possibly the latest Heroes of Might and Magic (they’re up to 6, right?); possibly the Trine 2 expansion.

I need Dishonored and Far Cry 3, got a brand new gaming comp screaming for a good test.

When Orcs Must Die 2 inevitably goes on sale, consider grabbing it; it won’t be more than six or eight bucks, and it’s fantastic, plus it has a multiplayer component that would be great to play with Dopers.

X-Com would be nice but I’m not very hopeful that’ll it will go on a big sale.

Possibly Civ V.

Tropico 4. Or Tropico 3, really. I don’t think there’s that big a difference.

FTL.

I played Arkham Asylum and while I could see why people liked it, it just wasn’t my genre. I played the challenge mode more than the game proper. The way combat works really is cool.

…but it’s already BEEN on big sale. Or does 50% off not qualify anymore?

Is it mostly multiplayer, or is there a good single player game there too?

No, that’s really good. I missed it. Wasn’t looking, really, as I didn’t expect such a big discount on a game that was released this year and was so well-received.

Visually they are very similar but Tropico 4 is a MUCH better game. Improvements in the code mean it runs much smoother and faster than 3. Also things like the quick-build button make it much less frustrating at times.

It will be one sale - it always is, and it usually includes the basic game plus a couple of DLC packs.

I just bought the whole Crysis bundle for like $18. All the games and expansions.

Worth it. There might be a day or two left on that sale.

Might pick up the Master of Magic remake that I don’t already have (Elemental: This Time it Doesn’t Suck, Honest or whatever the subtitle is). Warlock is okay but somehow feels kind of flat.

Steam has spoiled me to the point where I pretty much won’t buy any game over $7.50, and even over $5.00 makes me hesitate. Hoping to get Civ V, Aquaria, and Alpha Protocol. If they don’t hit $5.00, I can wait - my huge backlog will console me
