I concur with the others about Mass Effect - it is excellent, the combat fairly standard 3rd person shooter, and the rest of the gameplay is top-notch Bioware like (an updated version of) KOTOR (or Dragon Age, but better IMO). Great SF atmosphere, too.
Mark of the Ninja for $7.49. It’s got a 92 Metacritic rating, and the reviews of it I’ve read are positively glowing in the elegance of its stealth mechanic. Sent a copy to my brother for Christmas, downloaded a copy for myself.
…
Which is another issue. I bought a copy of Arkham City for my brother for Christmas, but he already has it. (The game is currently sitting in my inventory ready to be gifted). If anyone out there wants a copy, especially if you’ve got something you’d be willing to trade, let me know.
Natural Selection 2 is awesome, and I’d be playing it every day if not for Planetside 2, but we still play it.
Amazon has Spec Ops: The Line for the same price but with an oddly bundled Bioshock 1 and 2, so get it there. Arma 2: CO is a cool game in and of itself, but if you’re going to get it to try day z it’s better to wait for the standalone day z probably.
So, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is 33% off. Anyone with experience with these sales think that it may go lower? Been wanting to play this for a while, but the holiday game budget is tiny this year. Given how new it is, i expect not, but another ten bucks saved would mean another game
I highly doubt it. Most I’ve ever seen it discounted for was dropping it to about 13 dollars. Might get as low as five bucks in a year or two, though, depending if THQ gets on its feet again or not.
But all that being said, the game is worth more than 5 bucks anyway, at least IMO. It’s worth paying 15-20 dollars for…it’s a long and very good game.
You can get the thq bundle for like $25. It comes with dark siders 2 and the first one as well as a shit load of other high quality games. I bought the bundle so I could have darksiders 2 plus all the other games.
Well, I’ve now scored the two must-haves on my list (Skyrim and Borderlands 2) so I’ve sort of lost the drive to keep checking the sales. I’ll keep an eye out for stuff my kids would like. So far I’ve picked up Wizorb, Bastion, and some of the Lego stuff for my 10-year-old. (He asked for Skyrim but I’m waffling because I’m not sure all of the content is entirely appropriate. He’s not the kind of kid who gets bothered easily by violence/gore, though, so… I don’t know. It is a good game.)
Skyrim’s PEGI age rating is 18 years so buying it for a 10-year old seems a bit much.* Was a bit surprised to see it is that high, was expecting it to be 16. On the other hand, there’s decapitations, assassinations, you can murder innocent people and get away with it. Some of the quests involve cannibalism, sacrificing your own companions or letting a bunch of hippies die horribly just because you want some tree sap. I guess there’s some potential nightmare material in all that.
I ended up buying both Orcs Must Die 2 (and the DLCs with it) and FTL. I have to say, of the two I’ve enjoyed Orcs Must Die 2 the best. Now I’m having dreams of Orcs coming up the stairs to try and get me while I toss grenades down on them and make them run through endless traps.
