Crap. I was hoping Skyrim would be around the 20 dollar mark. Oh well. Here’s hoping Torchlight II is a daily before this is all over.
Noticed Witcher 1 is $2.50, which is ridiculous. Buy it. Just Cause 2 is still $3.75 from yesterday, another one you should get that I’ve recommended 500 times. Gal Civ 2 is $5, which is fantastic if you like 4x type games.
The three following games are all at $5:
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Assassin’s Creed 2: Deluxe Edition
Assassin’s Creed: Director’s Cut
I haven’t played any of the AC games, so I’m only willing to buy one right now. Any recommendations on which to go for?
Edit: FWIW I have a constant internet connection, so I’m not concerned about that for AC2; some folks have dinged it pretty hard for that in reviews.
I’m told they really revamp and polish the mechanics between AC1 and 2 and 2 is a much better game. The only way you want to play 1 is if you want to get the whole story.
Civ V: Gods & Kings is $3.15 with coupon code GMG30-DPLIM-DN831 on GMG.
I don’t care if you’re poor, go punch hobos until you get enough money and buy it. If you don’t have Civ V, go buy it in anticipation of the day you get Civ V.
Consensus is usually that AC1 is great for turning you off to the whole AC franchise with how tedious it is. Go for AC2.
Thanks for the heads up on Gods and Kings
Thanks, y’all! I went ahead and got AC2.
From today, I highly recommend the Trine (flash sale, 2 hours) and Orcs Must Die franchise packs to pretty much everyone.
Mount & Blade Warband is great if it looks like something that would appeal to you.
Mark of the Ninja came highly recommended to me, and great metascore - but I’m waiting on a lower price, I’m already packed to the gills with new gaming for at least a few months.
In case it needs to be said: There is only one circumstance under which one should buy the original Mount & Blade over Warband. That is if you’ve already played the crap out of Warband and want to play on the original’s map. The differently-arranged world map is the closest thing to a feature that Warband doesn’t also have.
Edit: Oh, and Plants vs. Zombies is on a flash sale now. Totally worth it.
Ok, question about AC. I recently had a chance to try out Dishonored and quickly discovered that my tried and true method of running in screaming and slashing my weapon wasn’t working very well. Now, I’ve heard that Dishonored’s gameplay is kind of the same as AC’s. As in, it focuses on stealth and sneaking and all that. If that’s the case, I’m not going to waste my money as I will fail miserably. But…if it’s not…?
I’ve only played the first AC, so my assessment will be limited, but I remember screamy slashy combat versus guards to generally be really easy. Just hold down your guard button and push your attack button whenever a guard lunges at you to do a flashy counterattack. It’s just tedious and takes much longer than a stealth kill, and you don’t look nearly as cool. You probably need or at least want to use stealth or some other form of subtlety versus named targets (each of which is the whole point of a level) and templars (and fighting them is optional).
I had no idea there even was an Orcs must die 2. OMD 1 was awesome, so I bought a 2 pack of the complete OMD2 package for $10. If anyone wants to buy the second pack from me for $5 then PM me.
If you bought any games from amazon in the past month and a half, you should have received a $5 credit for each game you bought. You can now redeem those by buying games from the Editor’s Choice list. You can only use one credit per game.
More games may be added and they rotate what’s on sale (the rep already said XCOM and BL2 would get 50% discounts later) so you may want to just note what you like and wait to see if it drops lower. Coupons are good through January.
Immediately on sale now for a good price (with coupon):
Hotline Miami for $2.50
Dark Souls for $12.99
Secret World for $12.99
Mass Effect Trilogy for $24.99
Mass Effect 3 for $9.99
Kingdoms of Amalur Collection (inc DLC) for $9.99
Highly recommend the secret world now that it went free to play with no restrictions other than buying the box.
Oh, and just to clarify, the coupons/credits are already attached to your account. You don’t need to enter a code or anything, when you pick a game from the list, it will automatically deduct $5 from the cost during checkout.
Risen 2: Dark Waters is $7.10 at Gamersgate (Coupon: IAMANELDERGEEK) which is the lowest price I’ve ever seen it at. Previous low according to the Steam track histories was a one-day $10 sale from GMG.
Steam activated.
Max Payne is $15 on Steam and Amazon price matched it. If you have the $5 Amazon coupons discussed a few posts up, you can get it for $9.99
If you have an Editor’s Choice coupon, you can get a copy of Hotline Miami for free ($4.99 - $5 coupon) from Amazon right now. Act fast before they sell out.
Somebody here has the Thief games on their wishlist. The franchise is a Daily Deal at 75% off.
Who all is playing Orcs Must Die II? We should set up some chances to play co-op. What are your Steam handles? Mine is the same as my Doper name-- friend me if you want to play OMD2!
