I understand that fiberglass is made by blowing high pressure air on extruded “blobs” of glass. Is it safe to say the same is done with steel wool (using an inert gas)? Or is it created by the steel wool fairies?
I’m not sure what you mean by “fiberglass is made by blowing…”; the extrusion IS the manufacturing. I’m sure that the air is just for rapid cooling.
Anyway, no. Steel wool is made by shaving steel wire; steel wire is made by pulling steel billet through a wire tool. I’m not sure that they use anything besides water to cool steel, but far from using inert gases, steel wire is vacuum degassed.
