Steel works question

I’m working on a translation here, and I’m wondering whether there is an English word that describes the process in which steel (or whatever metal) is made into wire. The way it’s been described to me is that it’s basically melted and then put through something akin to a pasta maker, and the resulting wire is drawn out. Any help out there? Thanks.

The term I’ve heard is “drawing.”

from Merriam-Webster online:

15 : to spread or elongate (metal) by hammering or by pulling through dies; also : to shape (as plastic) by stretching or by pulling through dies
intransitive senses

OK, good, that’s a first step. The actual word in Hungarian means anything made by this process…so would you call these “drawn goods” or is there a better alternative?

Oh, wait, it seems that “drawn materials” would work well. There also seems to be a process called extrusion, and I’m wondering if this is the same or not.

Drawing refers to the process of pulling a material through a die. Extrusion refers to pushing the material through the die. The extrusion process is used for cross-sections more complex than simple squares or circles. It’s also more costly.
