Stephen Colbert: Late, but want to mention his tribute to his mom

I searched and did not see a thread about this, so thought I would just briefly post about it. If it was mentioned previously, sorry.

He had been away due the death of his mother. Upon his return last week, he used the first few minutes to pay tribute to his mom - my whole family was near tears watching it.

Good for him. It was a fine tribute. Thank you for sharing this.

So was I. It was a beautiful tribute.

It was lovely. I cried very hard. I thought it was a beautiful tribute when he said “If you watch this show and you like it, it’s b/c I’m lucky enough to work with a great team of people. If you watch this show and you like me it’s because of my mother.”

That’s a pretty great epitaph for a mom, I think.

I saw this. At the end of the show he pretended to faint, just like his mom taught him.

It was a great tribute.

my fav. part was when he did the “faint”. that was the sniffing moment. “awwwww, sniff, his mum’s faint.”

“I want to thank everybody who offered their thoughts and prayers”

Maybe thoughts and prayers aren’t all that bad.

Just saw the show. Very nice. He is such a pro and a great human. Liked the Postal Service too.

We always record the Daily Show and Colbert Report and watch them when we have time to enjoy them, so we were a week behind. I’d wondered why they were showing reruns. The tribute was lovely.

Class act all the way.
Occasionally, we choose good people to watch on TV.
Mr. Colbert appears to be one of them.

So sweet. Just when I thought I couldn’t love him more, he shows how big and warm his heart is. What a lovely tribute.

It was a very touching tribute; His voice was cracking throughout and I was amazed that he could go on and do a normal show after that. (Although I would not have wanted to be the guest that night.) He mentioned that his mother suffered the loss of a brother of hers, her husband (Stephen’s father) and three sons (some of Stephen’s brothers). For those who don’t know, Stephen’s father and two of his brothers died when Stephen was ten years old, in a plane crash.

Also, I believe he found out about her passing the same night as Paul McCartney was on the show. I think before the show started.

Wow; hadn’t heard that - good lord.
