Colbert Report abruptly suspends production

Comedy Central announced that they have suspended production of the Colbert Report for at least two days due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

Anyone have any better info?

I don’t have any more info, but I hereby predict that it turns out to be some kind of intentional ploy by the writers, having to do with Colbert’s (not) running for president or his SuperPAC.

If I am wrong, I will eat cheese.

I never eat cheese.

I was wondering why it was a repeat last night, when the channel guide indicated a new episode.

My first thought was that maybe his mother is sick. I think she’s 91. I don’t think they would cancel production at the last minute like this for entertainment- people were expecting to go to the shows yesterday and today and only found out at the last minute that there wouldn’t be tapings on those days.

WSJ is saying family emergency.

Word on the blogosphere has it that a family member fell sick.

Family emergency…

Best wishes to the family.

I hope it is his Mom and not someone younger. The poor man already lost young relatives when he was young himself.

Pix or it didn’t happen.

He is one of the few people on TV that I respect (along with Jon Stewart).
I hope his mother (or other family member) gets better.
Death sucks.

i hope everything ends up ok.

i’ll be having some “B&J amercone dream” tonight in his honor.

Alan Sepinwall is reporting his mother is ill.

Here she is on TV a few years ago. Nice lady.

If it’s his mom, I hope it’s fast and painless. It’s like being assumed into Heaven.

No word on how his mother is doing, but apparently the show will go back to taping new episodes on Monday.

In case anybody missed it, the show did come back yesterday. At the beginning of the show Colbert talked about how difficult it must’ve been for everybody while he was away, and said something like “Apparently having 11 kids makes you as tough as nails.”

I was thinking about this - thank you for the update…

It was very discreet on his part, and also very touching. He mentioned some of the insane rumors about why his show was off the air, and then quietly and subtly mentioned his mother.

Link. (May only work today, 2-21-12)

Nicely done, Stephen. Hope mom is feeling better.

I hope Mom is OK.

That being said, they surely made a Paul is Dead thing out of it. Suspended Production??? For 2 days??? That’s not suspended production. That’s showing reruns. That’s “Colbert can’t show tonight. In his absence, we’ll…”
Extra points for driving up interest.
