Stephen Colbert on L&O:Criminal Intent Tonight

The Daily Show’s Stephen Colbert is the co-star on tonight’s Law and Order: Criminal Intent. For those who would rather not have any details about the plot - a spoiler box. CAMPAIGN FOR SAINTHOOD RESULTS IN MURDER AND DECEIT; STEPHEN COLBERT (‘THE DAILY SHOW’) GUEST-STARS – Detectives Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) probe the murder of an elderly woman who was poisoned by an anonymous package and set their sights on a crafty forger (guest star Stephen Colbert, “The Daily Show”) whose expertise is needed by a local church to verify documents proving the sainthood of 19th-century healer named Brother Jerome. But the investigators uncover a trail of conflicting old letters that could complicate the church’s expensive campaign to canonize Jerome – and they ponder how official sainthood can require a small fortune and human lives. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star. TV-14

I never noticed before that spoiler will actually show up in the message preview caption…

Sorry, that should have been “spoilers” (as in, the contents of the spoiler box)

Oh never mind, I need more coffee lol

I didn’t like Colbert in the first scene where he is confronted by Goren and Eames – he came off a little too light and perky, as if he were just about to launch into a “Daily Show” sketch. But he did fine in the rest of the episode.

It was an interesting re-telling of Mark Hofmann and the Mormon forgery murders. At first I was a bit miffed that they chose to recast the story as a Catholic cause for sainthood foundation, rather than use the original Mormon church, but I realized that if you’re basing a show in New York, it’s much easier to talk about an influential Catholic hierarchy than an influential Mormon hierarchy.

Colbert also showed up last night in the season finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Branching out from The Daily Show it would seem!

He also provides voices for a few characters on both “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” and “Crank Yankers.”

“It’s French, bitch.”
