So I don’t know if he has been discussed to death, but I’m currently reading him so…
I’m reading the Dark Tower series. Right now I’m on IV Wizard and Glass. To me I like these books the best so far. These kinds of books of his (like Eyes of the Dragon, and The Talisman) I like the best.
Really I’m just curious if anyone else has or is reading The Dark Tower series. If so are you enjoying them? How far are you in them?
There is a large number of Straight Dope King Fans…they will be along soon I am sure.
The only thing I will ask you in return is this…what specifically do you want to discuss about the Dark Tower series…it is soo long and soo good…what do you want to talk about? I just finished the latest - Wolves of the Calla - very nice…very nice indeed.
But don’t pass on his “regular” books, too. I just finished listening to “From a Buick 8”. I think I expected to be disappointed by a writer that by now must be selling out, or burning out, or going for the easy thriller clichés.
But it was well-written, more centered on the psychology of a situation than the plot itself. He’s matured enough to study our reactions to the unknown rather than just the unknown itself.
I don’t know what specifically I want to talk about hehe. I’m just enjoying these books so much that I find I don’t want to sleep because I want to stay up all night reading.
Oh I have to ask…I know this is probably childish heh but since you are a book ahead of me, I’m going to. I really like Oy. Well I guess it’s because I always root for animals whether in books or movies Just tell me tell me…does he die? When I was reading The Wastelands, there towards the end I had to skip a few pages and scan to see if he lived. I know I know, but I just HAD to know.
Oh and do you think the gang will end up getting killed? It seems to hint that they will be in order for Roland to get to the Dark Tower. Argh, just things that keep me speedily turning the pages to find out.
Oh no I like his regular books too. Rose Madder, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Insomnia and Dreamcatcher are a few of my favorites. I just seem to enjoy the fantasy kind more.
I do agree though, his books haven’t become all the same. He still finds new ways to keep me interested in his books.
If you haven’t yet read The Stand, you really ought to. It’s extremely good. My favorite of SK’s works by far, pending a final analysis of The Dark Tower once all its volumes are released.
Yeah several people have told me to read The Stand. I just couldn’t get into it at first. I have come across that though, with his books. Sometimes I can’t get into them, and then I have to go back and try again. I had that problem with Bag of Bones. Which turned out to be a GREAT book.
