Steve Buscemi Appreciation Thread

I thought we should just take a little time out of our lives to appreciate one of the funniest and creepiest actors ever.

Steve Buscemi has been a favorite of mine since… I don’t know a long time.

I think my favorite Steve Buscemi movie is “The Big Lebowski”.

Go ahead and share your thoughts on the man, the myth and the legend.

He’s currently featured in a really cool audio drama at seeing ear theater which I think everyone should listen to. I think it’s http://www.scifi.com/set

If that address doesn’t work, I’ll try again later.

Lucky Charms

Favorite Buscemi roles:

As “Chet” the bellboy in Barton Fink.

Of course, as “Mr Pink” in Res. Dogs.

As “Tommy” in Tres Lounge.

Worst role he’s ever done: Whatever the hell his name was in that shitball of a movie Airheads

(Somewhat) on the subject, has anyone seen Ghost World yet?

Hey! Mine too.

Loved him in Resevoir Dogs, Fargo *still lol @ his foot in the woodsnipper * The Big Lebowski and Trees Lounge * which he also directed *

Good to see more people who appreciate his work.

I can’t but appreciate the man since I get compared to him once in a while. 'Specially when I had my hair a little longer and had the goatee and 'stache, everybody started calling me Mr. Pink.

Trees Lounge is my fave of his - finally just playing a regular slacker who gets in over his head. Miller’s Crossing is my second fave only because I haven’t seen all of Fargo yet.

Mr. Pink rocks. Don’t forget Pulp Fiction, Con Air & Armageddon.

I hear they are making a Reservoir Dogs action figure of him, and he refused to have it holding a gun.

Love him as “the Mink” in Miller’s Crossing, and he broke my heart in the recent Ghost World.

I am surprised no-one so far mentions Steve Buscemi’s participation in Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead, where he is a hitman, who is responsible for many of the dead parties who are in Denver at this time.

Sorry, but I am trying to forget Armageddon. He was the only thing decent about the movie. This line was great

The one extremely funny scene in Big Daddy (a stupid movie in most ways) is when Steve Buscemi and Adam Sandler have a puzzled exchange about McDonald’s only serving breakfast until 10:30 am.

And I think he’s great in Desperado.

I will confess that I am slightly afraid of his teeth. There’s a shot in Armageddon that is a close up of him screaming, and it’s quite terrifying.

Man, everybody is forgetting his classic role as ‘Ed’ in the movie Ed and His Dead Mother. Lucky punk got to get it on (or almost) with that one agent.

On another odd note, anyone ever seen Animal Factory? I believe he also directed this movie and makes a cameo. Kind of funny seeing his brother who bares a strong resemblance.

delphica - Robert Parker and now Robert Rodriguez…is there any opinion you and I DON’T share?

I’ve seen “Ghost World”!

I actually didn’t think it was all that great, but it was definitely good. That may be one of those movies that most people agree are amazing, that I just missed. That said, the first time I saw it, I though American Beauty was so-so. It took a second viewing to blow me away.

Still, his part in Ghost World was good. I really suggest listening to his audio drama on that website, it’s free.

I apparently need to see Trees Lounge, I’ll let you know what I think of it.

Just funny-looking in a general way.

I knew I was going to enjoy The Big Lebowski when I read a review that said, paraphrased, “You know you’re in for something when Steve Buscemi plays the most normal character in the film.”

well, i’m new here, but i love his work, too, and i also think that desperado was one of his best roles.

He really is terrific in Ghost World. It’s one of the few where he isn’t cast as a freak or loser. Initially, he’s set up to look that way, but as the movie delves into his character, you end up having to respect him.

I heard somewhere that he was going to play William Lee in a movie version of two William S. Burroughs novels, junky and Queer. I haven’t read Queer, but Junky is a great book and Steve would be perfect for the main role. It would be Oscar worthy I bet.

peace,
JB

he is a pretty cool actor. i don’t go to movies much, but i have seen a few of his roles.
why does he always look so greasy?

Since no one else has mentioned it, I enjoyed him in Living With Oblivion. Just a strange, surreal movie. Trees Lounge was good, but also depressing as hell. which didn’t make it less good, I just had a sinking feeling the entire time watching him fuck up.

He also had a fairly minor role in The Search For One-Eye Jimmy. A movie most notable for a blurb on the tape box that says “Will record onto a standard SP length tape!” Apparently, copyright infringement was not a concern for the producers  As I recall, he has cardboard cutouts of wrestlers and stuff and would try to get people to pay to have their picture taken with it on the streetcorner.

Living in Oblivion (1995) is my favorite, too.

Hasn’t anyone seen Twenty Bucks? No, I didn’t think so. That was the second movie I saw SB in (after Barton Fink). The plot traces the vicissitudes of a $20 bill as it passes from one person to another and goes through all kinds of adventures. SB played a stupid young robber. A smart old robber tried to teach him the tricks of the trade. But SB acted so stupid the other robber had to shoot him. A drop of his blood fell on the $20 and continued on after him for the rest of the movie.
